After my 6 mile swim two weekends ago, I got official confirmation of my acceptance into the Kingdom Swim (my previous acceptance was conditional on completing a 6-mile in open water).
So last night, I made reservations for flights, hotel, and car rental. OMG. It's real. I've spent a fantastic (think Ironman-level) amount of money on this thing. It has to happen now. LOL
Also, I've been getting faster in the pool and gaining more endurance - probably both from additional training time AND from the weight loss, which I'll toss in here as a random AW: I'm down almost 30 pounds from my highest weight. Over 25, for sure. SO proud of myself and thankful that I finally found a doctor who agrees that the uncontrolled gain was clearly physiological and not behavioral. Hooray!!!

This is so cool! So forgive me if I've missed this, but what makes Kingdom Swim so cool?
It's unusual in that it's a 10 mile swim without laps. I haaaate swimming races that involve laps, so when I decided to up my distance, there weren't a lot of options. Also, I know the organizer from USMS convention. He's pretty awesome.
And this year it's the USMS 9+ mile national championship. (Although there's 4 in my age group, so it's unlikely I'll place. Lol)
ETA: it's also generally considered a channel/marathon swim "gateway drug". I have no intention of a channel, but this one may be the intro to my Tahoe crossing.
