Ok, I started this book, which, given, was free, but the author really is pissing me off. So.... I'm going to rant:
I'm about 1/3 of the way through and the main character is overweight and is trying to diet, lose weight, etc. I have a huuuggeee problem with how this character is being portrayed. I have struggled with weight issues for years and almost find it offensive. The character can't stay away from junk food (fantasizes, finds bologna healthy) has never been to a gym, binge eats, eats her feelings. I find this a typical cliche and I feel like it makes the reader look at all overweight people this way: like they can't control what they eat and if they'd just portion control or eat healthy things they wouldn't be overweight. I'm really frustrated by this because as someone who eats really healthy and exercises regularly and still can't lose weight, I wouldn't want people putting me in this category, nor would I want others to assume all overweight people are this way. I don't know how I should go about this book.... do I continue reading and leave a review of my feelings at the end or do I just call it quits and just be mad to myself (and you guys reading this)...
Oh, that one. That was all over Goodreads the other day. Get to halfway through and then reassess it. Maybe you're just not in the mood for it now. Come back to it later on if you're still having issues with it.
Life is too short and there are too many excellent books to waste time on crap that annoys you.
Why do you feel so obligated to this one? Did you get the book free in exchange for a review or something? Even if that is the case, I would have no problem writing a review at the point you're at explaining why you felt like you couldn't finish it.
