I have FINALLY finished reading The Cider House Rules.
I'm sure you will all be thoroughly excited for me that after 11+ weeks that I'm finally done, and I'll stop whining about reading it and bringing it up during the weekly "what are you reading thread."
MrsAxilla, charlatti, I have to really hate a book before I won't finish.
Once I got past the first half where it was focused on Dr. Larch and excruciating details on performing abortions, delivering babies, the works of Charles Dickens, and Jane Erye, and then moved past Homer learning about growing apples and finally got more to the relationships between the people at the orchard it moved a lot quicker.
I'm glad I read it in the end, but it was definitely a slog.

I read it years ago and remember liking it, but I don't remember any of that! (Well. Except the abortions and babies, of course). Thanks for talking me out of a re-read!
Have you read The World According to Garp? Recently? It's on my list of "all time favorites", but I read it as an angsty 20-something. I'm scared it won't live up to the hype in my memory, especially after I finally read A Prayer for Owen Meany. I need another opinion - lol. I'll bet you're Irving'd out, though.

This was actually my first Irving, so I haven't read The World According to Garp. But yes, I'm very Irving'd out right now! There was an excerpt from A Prayer for Owen Meany at the end of my Kindle edition and I read about two sentences before going "nope!" and exiting the book.

I found A Prayer for Owen Meany difficult. I guess I'll say I liked it and am gald I read it, but I wouldn't pull it out if I needed something fun for sure.
