Steam up the bathroom and play in there for a bit to clear it up and run the humidifier to keep her comfortable tonight. Call the nurses line and see if they want you to come in.
Get thee to urgent care and she'll get a steroid treatment (liquid). Cold night air helps too.
Croup sucks but it's treatable.
Yes. Go to urgent care. We're at the take end of croup that started Sunday. The steroid helped immensely that night, but Monday was much worse when it wore off. We had to take him back to the pedi for more.
They told use to elevate his mattress at an angle or else it could then into pneumonia. They advised me to sleep in his room the first night at least. They also said to do the steam followed by cold air--either having him breathe from the freezer or an air conditioner. Every 2 hours or so.

We have never needed steroids for croup. We don't even go to the Dr. We always just treat with steam. The first time he got it we went to pedi and got an RX for steroids but never used them because the barky cough only lasted on one night. Obviously is she is struggling I would seek treatment.

Me neither. Home rem dies have always worked well for us.
Steroids are usually only needed if barking and stridor (high pitched sound on inhalation) persist into the waking hours/occur at rest.
As pp's said hot steamy shower or ice cold air from the freezer. Try to keep her calm as being upset will make things worse. Keep the head of her bed elevated/have her sleep with you.
Take her to the ER if the high pitched breathing sound persists when resting/she appears to be in distress (skin sucks in between her ribs/heavy breathing). Her respiratory rate will likely be higher than usual if she has a fever.
