Target's Threshold line is pretty good (I have a set on DS's bed), but they aren't character. TBH, I also have a PBK set for him and I think the thread count is identical.

Target threshold for non-character. Our character ones are crappy. Would any of the fun pillow fort ones work? I can't speak to quality but the designs are cute.
My target had a bunch of threshold organic and performance sheets on clearance last night. I wish I'd have found a color we could use. The pillowfort ones are really cute, but they are that cheap microfiber stuff.
Another Target fan. I have the organic cotton in a bright pink for her and then she has a doc mcstuffins pillowcase on a spare pillow for the character fix, lol
I actually love the microfiber character sheets and haven't had anything rip yet (I think we have 4 different sets). They are so soft compared to the character sheets I had growing up
My Target had several lines on clearance when I was there last night. Bought king size sheets and 4 extra pillow cases for about $32! Decent reviews online, too
I've also lucked out at our kids resale shop, and found PBK Star Wars sheets for $5/set.
I'll echo the Target recommendation. I just bought DD a set of hot pink organic threshold sheets on clearance for $13. I like their Room Essentials easy care line too. I think it's mix of cotton and microfiber, but they feel way better than the Pillowfort line. Only downside is that they're mostly solid colors, but I prefer to make it fun with blankets and pillows anyway.
