Not, do you want her to be - WILL she be? I know she doesn't want it, but politicians often have to take one for the team (see: Paul Ryan and the speakership). Despite her not bringing something extra to the table (also from the NE and the same age as Hillary), EW is clearly the star of the lot.
Newp. She's stronger in the Senate and they need as many strong Ds there as possible. The MA governor is a Republican and would be able to fill her seat (same reason Sherrod Brown isn't a consideration); it's only a 160 day appointment after which there will be a special election but unless they can get a strong D candidate, the seat will go to the R appointee as the incumbent because people are lazy. The misogynists won't vote for two vaginas.
I think he's less likely than Warren. He's a Democratic senator, and the dems NEED all the seats they can get. If he leaves, his seat will be filled by a Republican governor.

I believe I've heard that MA has special rules. If she left she'd be replaced by a democrat.

Nope. That will give Kasich an opportunity to put in an R, and there are some ugly candidates (philosophically) that he would definitely consider. Remember, this is Mr. Defund Planned Parenthood and SSM is a sin, not the Mr. Moderate that he was portrayed against the circus that was Trump/Cruz/Rubio.

Nope. Aside from the fact she 's much more needed in the Senate, this country is not ready for an all female ticket. I think she'll pick a younger male from a swing state. I also wouldn't be surprised if she picks someone on the conservative side, in order to attract Republicans who don't want Trump.

IDK what special rules you are talking about. After Ted Kennedy died, there was a special election and that's when Scott Brown (R) was elected to fill the seat for the rest of the term. Scott Brown then LOST that seat when the term was up to Elizabeth Warren.
After John Kerry became Sec of State, there was a special election and John Markey (D) won the special election.

My understanding is that the governor would have the opportunity to sit someone for a period of time (160 days, I think?) and we all know that people are lazy in special elections and mid-terms and will just check the box for the incumbent so unless EW gets out there and stumps heavily for a candidate a lackadaisical turnout would favor the incumbent...which would be the R that the governor seats. I don't think Hillary will take that chance.
Plus, she does amazing in the Senate and it would be a great loss there.
I think she'll go a different direction than "look, two women." I'm leaning toward Castro right now. Hispanic from Texas, name recognition (plus a brother with name recognition) and he can swing votes in Texas, the Southwest and Midwest, some key states.
Tim Kaine is from VA, also a key swing state, so he might be an option. It doesn't hurt that he speaks Spanish, which would be beneficial on the trail. My third choice is Labor Secretary Tom Perez. He can keep the labor vote for Hillary (or swing any that are tempted to turn toward Trump because vaginas are the devil) but he's from NY I think, so that (two NYers) is a consideration.
But Liz and Sherrod are no-go right now, with their Senate seats on the line.

You are right there are special rules. The special rules, however, are what WOT?* explained. Most states the governor appoints someone to fill out the term. In MA, the governor only gets to put in a seat warmer until a special election is held 160 days later. It's likely the replacement would be a democrat, as MA has only sent one non-dem to the senate in decades, Scott Brown, who was an independent and elected to fill out the rest of Ted Kennedy's term.

I think the people of Massachusetts are smarter than just checking a box for an incumbent...but then again they did elect Scott Brown...so...

Charlie Baker is our governor now and therefore a Republican would likely be appointed for the seat warmer position. Maybe even Bill Weld.

Someone remind me, when does the Veep choice usually get announced? Is it leaked at least before the convention, typically? I swear I paid attention at this point before, but I'm completely drawing a blank.

Quick google and it Looks like recently shortly prior to the convention.

Obama announced Biden on August 23, the convention started August 25 that year.
DH and I were discussing this earlier today and I said she needs to pick a man because she needs balance. And that balance is a penis.
which is definitely But it's the truth.
Baby steps. I'm actually ok with her needing to pick a man. For many of us, choosing HRC over Sanders was due, in part, to his unrealistic ideas that he can just wave a magic wand and make all our dreams come true.
This is the same idea to me. We can't expect to elect a female president AND VP all at once. Incremental change is how we get there. She has a much, much better shot if she plays this right, and that means choosing a male running mate.
