I am so disturbed by this story. It's also really horrible to see Th fireworks in the background. I just remember being so excited to take my 2 yo and 5 yo last year. It was going to be the best vacation ever. I can't imagine how crushing it must be for these parents.

This is crazy to me? So those are real lakes at Disney? They don't like, sonar them or something? I'm so surprised by this. It just seems like something Disney would be on top of.
This is so awful. I can't even imagine being the parents of this poor child. It makes me sick to think about.
And of course, assholes on Facebook are already sharing links to the story talking about neglectful parents, and why wouldn't you have your kid near you, etc. (not friends of mine, but random people when you click on this trending topic). Absolute assholes. No details are even available beyond they are searching for a child. This is the worst day of those poor parents' lives and they are going to post shit like this? I should be surprised, but unfortunately am not.
I am not suggesting that I agree but I did see an article that there were no witnesses to the alligator actually dragging the child. But I don't see this info in others.
no heyjude I wondered that myself at first. Like maybe the child was taken. But I know that gators will go after dogs so a child that small wouldn't be much different. I can't say I heard of many alligator attacks or deaths living in Florida. But I think it's one of those dangers that people living there and visiting there just don't worry about. Like I said earlier, if you mentioned worrying about a gator you'd likely get a wave of the hand and a "Eh they're not a big deal." But really anything that would eat a medium sized dog could go after a child as well.
This story made me sick. I truly feel for his parents. People at Disney just aren't going to be thinking of preventing something like this.
I used to work at Disney World. I worked at one of the nicest resorts (Yacht and Beach Club) and to get to the employee parking area I had to run across a small bridge that crossed a river. There was definitely an alligator/croc there and I was terrified every night to go back to my car. They are everywhere in Florida.
I'm really surprised at this--alligator attacks on people are really rare in the US. My coworker and i went down a rabbit hole on this topic a few years ago and it seemed like the only fatal attacks involved people walking dogs (alligator apparently either love or hate dogs, depending on your perspective).

How horrifying. Those poor parents I wonder what DW is going to do about alligators now. I had no idea they were a problem there. When we stayed at the Beach Club, we went on to the beach and I know I didn't see any warning signs about possible alligators. The idea that I had to be extra vigilant about an alligator grabbing my child did not enter my mind. Now I'm seeing people say they've been seen in the water near Tom Sawyer's Island and Splash Mountain? We're talking about a place that is crawling with young children.
