The world is sad and I'd like to read about somewhere worse, apparently. Have a good dystopian read for me? I've read the usuals (Handmaid's Tale, Station Eleven, Divergent series, wayward pines, last policeman, more I can't think of right now) so bonus points for something a little lesser known.
If you want long & character-driven, go with the Justin Cronin trilogy that starts with The Passage. Bonus because the 3rd and final was just released. It's mainly set 100 years post-apocalypse, but goes a lot into how the downfall started. It's really amazing, but definitely long.
I also loved how it ended. It did not disappoint in the least.
Oh I just thought of a few more. We all looked up, a YA pre-apocalypse novel. What happens when you know something's going to happen? And Above All Men, which is set during the slide into the collapse. Its pacing is really different, sort of a slow walk through this new world.
Both very good, though thoroughly different from one another.
Then this is more of an urban fantasy mixed with post-apocalypse, and it's either YA or NA (probably more NA but I"m not sure). Angelfall by Susan Ee, and it's a series about, well, fallen angels.

I haven't read it yet, and I don't know if it counts...but a co-worker recommended "The Lottery" by Shirley Jackson. I really want to read that one, might have to buy it though since my Library and OD don't carry it.
You've probably read "The Hunger Games" series, if not that's a fast and popular read.

I just started the 3rd book today. The first was by far the best I think.
I read Red Rising and really enjoyed that one. The book left out a lot I felt but it was an easy fast read. The second book just came up on my library queue so I haven't started it yet to see if the series is still captivating.

Please post when you're done w/ City of Mirrors - I'd love to chat about it. I loved it so much.

I thought the second one was the best.
I'm on the second Queen of the Tearling. It's decent.

One of my favorites is the Razorland Trilogy by Ann Aguirre, starts with Enclave.
Also, The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer is dystopian, starts with Cinder. Each novels is a twist on a fairy tale theme. The first book is a touch heavy, but the second, third and fourth all have quite a bit of humor.

It's actually a short story -- really good. I would think most libraries should have it as part of a collection of stories somewhere.
