They all suck. And we've been through tons of them.
Now I just buy cheap ones. I usually do an underarm temp. The "add a degree" thing seems to be true, although it really depends. For keeping home from school reasons, if the temp is 99.3 under the arm, I consider it a fever (supposed to be under 100.3 to go to school).
Generally, though, I rarely actually take my kids' temperatures any more.
Ahh, totally forgot about under arm temps. Do you still have to add a degree to it?
I use the Kinsa and I don't.
P had HFM this past weekend and I'll say the Kinsa seemed to be spot on. The first temp we took was 103.5 (and I don't think he was 104.5, since I was surprised it was that high to begin with). Then we gave him Advil and I took it an hour later. It had gone down to 99, which also seemed right (at that point he was a little warm but not overwhelming so. Save
The Braun ear thermometer is the one I use. I do both ears and if they differ noticeably, do them both again. If I am concerned (ie, is this really right?), I do either rectal or underarm to confirm.
I suck with the forehead one and the Target ear one was horrible.
I ordered a kinsa one so hopefully it works better then the crappy ones I have. I tried doing an under arm temp with our basic one just now and it said 96 degrees. Lol.

I got a kinsa recently, but the oral and underarm readings are so drastically different that I can't trust it. I need to contact their customer service about a replacement or returning.
We have the Braun ear thermometer and I hate it with a fiery passion. It's only good for giving a "yes/no" answer on a fever, not telling how high the fever actually is. Like, I'll take three readings and get 100.9, 101.7, and 103.4. So that's a "yes he has a fever" but how high, I have no fucking idea. The first two temps are reasonable, the third makes me freak out and want to call the pedi. WHICH IS IT BRAUN?!
