So I went in today for 70% off everything. I lost my mind apparently, but I fell love with, and subsequently bought, 8.5 yards of a blue and cream plaid Italian linen.
But what do I do with it, lol? Curtains? Bedspread? Lots and lots of blazers?
Can I get some advice on how to make a bedspread for a king with 60" fabric? Where do I put the seams?
I don't think I have ever made a king bedspread, so I am not sure of the size, but when I have made duvet covers I have put a full panel in the center and split a panel in half for the sides.
Standard king is 76x80. I'd keep the 60" width as the main portion and go with the 80" length plus a drop equal to the side drop (or slightly longer to give some room for play, but allow for space at the top) so about 90" length. Cut the second piece in half lengthwise, one for each side of the main piece. Two seams, each at about 9" (more or less) from the edge of the mattress will give you room for seam allowances and an 18" or so drop (so you can use on higher pillow top mattresses or other allowances for different.
Standard comforter width for a king size is about 102", give or take a couple (supposedly standard length is 86-88" but if you have the length to be more generous, why not?) By using the full 60" width you have about 16" per side to play with (including generous seam allowances.) I wouldn't do the seam down the middle or splitting the top in quarters with seams at 1/4" and 3/4" because it would be more obvious, imo, than seams closer to the edge, where your eyes don't automatically go.
Just thinking out loud and I'd probably ask on Home & Garden or Crafts for the folks who interior decorate and sew a lot more than I do.
