Hey gals, I asked Fashionx this too, but figured I'd check in here as well.
Remember my asking about alterations for this?
Well, I decided all I really wanna do is have the tailor remove the sleeve exactly at the seam. What would you consider a reasonable price to have this done by a standard tailor (no time to go to the fancy one at this point)?
For reference, I'm in Chicago, the dress is fully lined (polyester I think?) and outer fabric is cotton. I paid around $60 full price (i think) for it at H&M.
Yup, its lined. The lady said it could be around $40 which I thought was kind of a lot. I was thinking it would be more around $20, but I don't really have much reference for that, haha.

yeah, $40 seems a little pricey to me. When there's lining involved though, there's always another layer of difficulty to account for (no pun intended!). Maybe it's time to take up sewing? lol I've started doing minor alterations and it's kind of fun (since I have a bad habit of buying things from goodwill that I want to alter).

I'm thinking she's saying $40 since she has to rip out the sleeves and the lining. She basically has to rip it apart twice and then come up with a way to finish the shoulders neatly without too much additional fabric to work with. The seam ripping can be tedious and take time to keep from ripping the dress. It seems simple, but it gets complicated with additional layers. Lining fabric can unravel pretty easily which is probably what is making it so much. My good tailor would be $40+ and the OK one would be about $30-$35. The redneck sewing lady would be about $20, but she lets her dogs jump on you and your clothes to be altered.
