First, the random. Our anniversary is Wednesday. I'm trying to decide where we should go out to eat. I google "anniversary dinner near mytown" ... first choice, one of our favorite restaurants here in town. Second choice? McDonalds. OMG, no, Google. (FYI, we have many many many better options than McDonalds, even within walking distance.)
This weekend we did a TON of shopping. Like, meandered around the outlet mall and somehow I wound up with three pairs of shoes, a new pair of pants, a t-shirt, and a leather jacket. (LOL, but it was only $35 and I look amazing in it.) Also, we rearranged and cleaned out the master closet. SO much better now, but it brings home that I don't own a lot of clothing. In fact, I may own more swimsuits than individual articles of clothing. I definitely have more pairs of shoes.
Sounds like a very productive weekend. We didn't do much, went to our cabin for the long weekend. DH worked on a couple small projects, I didn't do squat. A couple of our fence posts are rotting and need to be replaced, DH wants to DIY but I think it's going to be harder than it looks. Especially since there's a gate attached to the two rotting posts. I'm trying to convince him to use the handyman we use on occasion, but he's being cheap. I have a feeling a big fat I TOLD YOU SO is in our near future.
PS: Happy anniversary! Please don't go to McDonalds.
We had a crazy weekend! Hosted friend party Sunday and family party Monday. So much fun, but I'm exhausted!
Friday night we went a little crazy and decided to build a pergola. My DH and I stained the wood Friday night, then built it Saturday. I found this patio set on clearance at Target for $400! Its really nice! I'll upload a photo of the finished pergola on with the app.
This was a low key weekend for us and we didn't do anything house related. Only Saturday did we actually do anything fun and that was the zoo in the morning/afternoon and then we went to a baseball game in the evening.
I wanted to get out and cut grass along with plant some grass seed but it rained all day on Monday. Sunday I was just being too lazy and didn't feel like doing anything!
Happy Anniversary! It's DH's birthday tomorrow and I have no present for him. oops.
We stained the part of our fence that we hadn't gotten to and freshened up the rest (a stain sprayer is a worthwhile investment), and we took down the fence where it will be in the way for DH's office. . The office build is finally starting! Maybe I will tell DH that is his present. lol The contractor brought the permit to post and filed the commencement paper today, and the concrete guys are coming in the morning. They stopped by today to check out the site and set up some preliminary markers. If all goes well, DH should be in his office by the end of the month. They are building the shell and painting it in the shop, then it will be dismantled in panels and brought here to be reassembled (maybe next week). They will insulate, roof, drywall and paint the exterior, and we have an electrician and an air conditioning guy taking care of that stuff. We'll take care of the interior paint and flooring ourselves.
I can't wait. Having DH working in the house is not that bad,and it will be nice to have his stuff out of here, but what I am really looking forward to is having all of the buildings in so that we can figure out the plan for the courtyard. It is hard to figure out the layout and plan when you don't know how a building will change the flow and the feel of the space.
We had a pretty productive weekend. We got the carpet torn out in our guest bedroom and the bedroom painted. We also got our hallway painted. And all the pergo was delivered yesterday.
I also got an 8 mile run and a 50k charity ride in this weekend.
We're at the beach in the States with family so that's what we did this weekend. Unfortunately, I broke my toe while playing soccer with the kids, which made it difficult to go shopping at the outlets yesterday (it was raining so a good day to go). I'm sad about this as well as I love playing in the water and it's tough to do that as well. At least it's still fun to hang out with my family!

Let's see if this photo loads.... I want to add some horizontal slats to the back, but we went really simple with this and DH designed it so we didn't have to make any wood cuts. The blue fabric is old curtains I had. I'd like to find an outdoor rug. The hanging gloves are solar lights and look adorable at night.
The brick walls are the remnants of the carriage house the city knocked down. We are going to fix them up a bit and add/pour a capstone. I'd like to remove the parts of the concrete slab that are in bad condition too. All in good time I guess!

That's awesome!! Was it easy to build? I would love to do something like that for our back porch since we have afternoon sun.

bostonmichelle, - It was pretty easy, but we are handy and have a gazillion tools. It is 4x4 posts, 4x6 beams and 1x4 lattice. We used galvanized 1/2"x8" lag screws mostly with some other smaller lag screws (no predrill!) and a bunch of brackets. I looked at a bunch of DIY online tutorials, but they were all pretty traditional.
I worked in my backyard on Saturday night and got poison something on my arm. I am practically bathing in CareOne's version of clear caladryl today. Itches like a mofo! OTOH, the backyard is coming together; now that the shed has been delivered (and is full!), we need to get the guys back to re-install the fence. Then I can commence final landscaping. Woo hoo!
