Friday night DD had her basketball skills clinic. I have a sporty girl on my hands, that's for sure. She got to do rebound drills this time. She had so much fun.
Saturday was my 5K! We dragged ourselves over to the site at 7, where DH and DD promptly set up in camp chairs with Lucky Charms for breakfast, LOL. I ran the first 2.2 miles, walked another half mile or so, and ran to the finish line. Then I took advantage of all the things at the festival, including beer, yogurt pops, Sugar Daddys, and who knows what else. Got 2 massages and a Reiki session. Afterward we took DD to get fitted for her school uniform (eep!), then DH took over while I went to the Nordstrom anniversary sale. Go a few things and came home to a nice dinner and early night.
Yesterday I took over with DD so DH could start prepping for his big event in August. We headed to a local farm and had lunch, played on the playground, and dug a 1/2 bushel of potatoes. Now I'm trying to prep them quickly so they don't rot in my kitchen, LOL. We got an unexpected phone call from a friend of ours who is in town for work. His family is coming up on Tuesday, and we're going to GTG for dinner. We haven't seen them in quite a while, it should be a nice evening.
Congrats on your 5K, drloretta! I wish all mine ended with a massage!
I loved looking at all your photos, RockNVoll. You and your DH are the cutest Sorry you couldn't make it home for F's shower. I hope I get to see you in October!
My weekend was good! Nothing too exciting, some grilling with friends, a couple early morning runs, general laziness - so the usual
My mother-in-law just emailed me over a list of people she wants to invite to my NY baby shower and I don't even know where to start. She pretty much invited all of my sister-in-law's friends (ummm?) and every person she ever worked with (she's retired) on top of normal family. The thought of having 50 people, the majority being strangers, watch me open baby gifts is already giving me anxiety. I'm not looking forward to the conversation I'm going to have to have about this! I love my mother-in-law, but she can be a steam roller and will likely do what she wants anyway.
Weekend was good. DH got back from a 10-day work trip to China super early Friday morning. Spent Saturday at Hampton Court Palace checking out the gardens and various Tudor-period demonstrations like jousting, meat roasting, falconry, etc. It was a gorgeous day weather-wise and I was so happy to be outdoors all day. We've since gotten into a heat wave in London (90 yesterday!) but Saturday was absolutely perfect. I posted a few pics on Facebook so most of you have seen them already.
Sunday we had a farewell Sunday roast for friends returning to the States. It was also my sister's baby shower, which I had to miss because plane tickets were like $1,000. Looking forward to coming home for a visit and to meet the baby in October though.
Congrats on finishing the 5k drloretta! scm1011, good luck with your MIL. My mom and I had more than one tearful conversation (her tears, not mine) about me not wanting a baby shower. It was rough. And then we threw my SIL's shower, and she told me afterward she was really happy I'd declined because it had been such a pain in the ass, haha.
We didn't do a whole lot over the weekend - walked around the shops at Market Street, played with blocks a lot, finally watched the last Hunger Games movie. I had my first mammogram on Monday, (woohoo!) so I've been jumpy every time the phone rings for the last couple of days, but if I don't hear today, I think I'm in the clear. I also realized someone hacked my debit card, so I have been dealing with that and waiting for my money to be returned. ($250! Thank goodness I caught it right away). Lesson learned, never use my debit card for anything except the ATM. Sigh.
5kcandlesinthewind, I admire your ability to put your foot down! I'd prefer to skip showers (I haaaaate being the center of attention), but I'm going to suck it up for MM reasons (free stuff!). I plan to have my nieces sit with me/help open gifts to deflect attention lol.
That sucks about your debit card; I hope its resolved quickly. That happened to me years ago and I stopped using it for anything but cash withdrawals.
Good luck with the shower conversation scm1011. I guess I was lucky (?) in that MIL only invited family and I'm an AW, LOL. It was still a huge # of people, as DH is one of 10 cousins, so there were people everywhere (my parents were the only ones from my side to come; I'm not bitter or anything ). All the guys sat in the living room and drank beer and watched sports. S was already there, so she was the center of attention.
