I've never gone for regular massages, just random ones. I do enjoy them though. There's a massage envy near me and I looked online and it seems like $59 a month for one massage a month. That seems like a pretty good price. Does anyone have any experience with them? Good or bad. I'm curious.

I liked them when I used them. Since you've been before, you know it's more like 50 minutes. I read bad stories about canceling with them, but I sent my notice in via certified mail and had no problems.

I used to go to a spa for mine, but then I went to ME--best massage I've ever had. I was afraid it would be weird, like tanning salon like? It was super nice inside. I love it.

They couldn't get deep enough for me, lol. That sounds dirty.
I went to them twice and I left unsatisfied. I need a really hard, deep tissue massage. H was happy with them, though.
I agree. I felt like kittens had walked on my back for an hour. I need someone to really get deep down and work on some intense muscle stuff I have in my shoulders. This didn't cut it.
I'm sure it depends on each massage therapist but my vote is nay.
Yes!!!! It did no good. It was actually annoying me so not relaxing at all. I was screaming in my head "harder!!! Deeper!!!" lol Such a tease!

They're franchised so it can be a really different experience from place to place. I worked as a receptionist at one location one summer in college. They don't pay the therapists super well (definitely not spa prices) so the quality can be a little hit or miss, but if you are nice to the receptionists and tell them what you want, it can be a good deal. Do the trial first to see what you think.
I had the opposite experience from some here. I only went once. The therapist noticed that my shoulders and neck were all messed up (we were in the middle of relocating, so that's where I was carrying my stress). The massage was a little too deep, and somehow I think it damaged a nerve. I had a tingling feeling all down my left arm right after the massage that stuck around for a long time (at least weeks, consistently). 4 years later, I still occasionally get that discomfort & feeling.
I wouldn't tell anyone to avoid ME completely because of it. Just that particular person at that specific location. A friend in CA who has had many massages switched to ME and swears by them.
Depends on the massage therapist. I've had good massages and just "okay" massages....no great ones. I don't think the therapists are as experienced in general, it seems like they are just starting out. Which is fine, because a massage costs about half as much as at a spa with a really well-trained therapist, so there's that. Personally, I'd rather pay more for a FANTASTIC massage and just go less often, than leave unsatisfied.
I've had fine/good ones and a great one. I told the great one what I wanted (neck, shoulders and back only) and she said, OK, but I'm going to do your hips too. She could tell that was where my back pain was coming from and stayed after to show me stretches to prevent the pain from returning. She was so excellent.
H and I both have memberships, and love it. There are several really good therapists at our location, and the staff is pretty good. All in all, it's a great deal for us, especially since we both have some lingering injuries that are relieved with therapeutic massage. Plus, we work out frequently and are always tight and sore, so it's really nice. We've never had an issue with them going too lightly - I've actually had to tell them to ease up, and I like it really hard (twss!).
I have a membership and overall I have really liked it. I definitely agree that you need to find a good person. I tend to save them up and then get a couple of 90 minute ones.
I've gone to ME when it was an emergency (back issues) and I needed one on a Sunday. It was horrible. I don't care that it was an office type environment vs. spa. It was definitely an inexperienced guy in his early 20's - probably fresh out of school. His hands were cold and he was so incredibly awkward. I've been getting massages for years and as I was laying there, all I could think of was getting the hell out of there. Massage Envy, Massage Heights - my understanding is they typically hire people right out of school. The good ones go on to spas or go out on their own.
