James started going to the church that I had been going to for years in winter of '03. As he got to know people, a few people suggested that he meet me. I wasn't aware at the time, but he started watching me to see if he was interested. He told me later that he nearly didn't approach me because I was wearing what he referred to as a "high maintenance" coat. It's a long brown coat with fake wool in the hood and at the cuffs. It's really out of date (was a couple years old even in '03), but I haven't been able to get rid of it because of the time that it represents (when we first started dating, etc.). I'm cleaning out our master closet today...and getting rid of it.
I get it. The first thing I noticed about my H the day we met was that he had a super nice coat on. I'm a sucker for a cute boy in a wool coat.
Sad to part with that kind of stuff, but it sounds like it falls into the category of haven't used/worn in the last year, so better to toss it. Easier said than done with some items.
Do you have a digital camera? What I try to do for things like that is take a picture of it. Put it on and have H snap a cute photo. Then you can save the photo but get rid of the coat
Ok, so take what I say with a grain of salt because my heart is made of stone.
Let it go to goodwill and maybe the person who picks it up will meet her future partner wearing it. Pass on the good luck since you already have a great souvenir (james).

:Y: And if you want to do something fun, write a little note about how you met while wearing this coat and you hope it brings luck and joy to the next wearer, and slip it in a pocket

but what if the person who buys the coat is already married?

Maybe add a card with the Ashley Madison site on it too.
