Tl;dr - Baby was born 8/3/16 at 2:51 am. It all went pretty smoothly and besides being seriously exhausted, I'm feeling ok!!
Full version - I had felt some contracting Monday overnight, but nothing consistent or painful and as a FTM, I didn't think it was anything. Then I had my 39 week appointment on Tuesday afternoon. He did his exam and said I was 6 cm dilated and needed to get to the hospital asap. I was so scared because he made it seem like I could deliver in like, 2 hours! I ended up driving back home to meet to DH and we went together and checked in around 430.
Doc came to check on me around 6pm and I hadn't made much progress, but I still decided to get the epidural at that time just in case. At around 830, they started me on pitocin. I was still moving pretty slowly and not feeling much at all. At 10pm, doc broke my water and told me to try to get some sleep. By midnight, I was up to 9 cm.
A little after 1am I felt like I could start pushing. It took me a few to get the hang of it. I felt really nauseas and ended up getting sick all over myself about an hour in. Wasn't expecting that! It felt like forever but she eventually arrived at 2:51 am. I consented to whatever cutting they needed to do so I'm not even sure what's going on down there, and I'm not sure I really want to even know! But I am feeling pretty sore.
We were team green and pretty much everyone IRL was convinced it was a boy, so I was so surprised when DH said it was a girl!! It was so fun to have waited for that surprise!
I had a hard time getting her to latch at first and she's a really strong sucker so feeding has been sort of painful. And since the first feeding she's only taken 2 or 3 big sucks before falling asleep. But she's had some good diapers so they are telling me not to worry.
She's finally asleep now for quite a stretch of time so I was able to get a few hours of rest. Here's a pic of her now.
