Since CloudBee posted about how the Honda airbags could THROW SHRAPNEL AT ME, I was like, "Holy shit! I gotta get that fixed!" Our car has been at the dealer for a month, and we've had a rental in the meantime. But we get to go get our car today - yay!
Except H discovered a crack in the front bumper last weekend. I don't recall it being there when we got the rental, and I know the rental agent didn't write it down. We haven't hit anything, so either we bottomed out in a parking lot and don't remember it, or someone hit us when we were parked on the street. Either seems equally likely in the city. We drive like twice a week. WHAT THE FUCK, UNIVERSE?
We have NO idea how it happened, and we are probably going to be out our $500 deductible for it. Did I mention that so far, we're also out $900 over the canceled Argentina trip because the hotels won't refund our money and the travel insurance doesn't cover it? I'm filing a claim with my credit card, but I'm not optimistic because I think their terms are the same as the travel insurance we bought.
I'm so sorry to hear that about your trip. What is the point of travel insurance if there are so many exclusions? If you booked with AMEX you might have good luck disputing it. I've heard they are pretty good about things like this.
The problem is basically that this is a situation nobody has ever put into an insurance policy because they've never heard of it happening. If our flights were canceled because the airline we were flying went bankrupt, that would be covered. But an airport just closing for three months? Nope!

I am so sorry about all the horrible adult money stuff. DH and I have been on a mission to find cheaper wine, since we are MMM poor and also lushes. Our current favorite is Hardy's Cabernet Sauvignon (3L box). We bought it originally to make sangria with, but it's actually totally drinkable on its own, and under $20.

Is there an appeal process?
I'm going to file with my CC. But it's a long story, and I need more documentation. SIGH.
Plus, I basically have a furry toddler! He's nearly 20 pounds, he spills water every time he drinks, he barfs if he eats too fast, he wakes me up at 5am regularly, and he likes to follow me into the bathroom.
Would it make you feel better to know that we're going to be about 13k in debt with our move next week? For H's position that's only a year long contract? We'll pay it off in about 4 months, but it still freaks me out. I won't get into our combined student debt. I should really check that lottery ticket sitting in my purse...

Bleeding money here too. New house, two new cars, new lawn mower, new carpet (seriously disgusting), paint and painters, new area rug, new lights and now I'm going to have to replace two AC units, fix $$$$ plumbing issues and oh, that doesn't cover the structural work that still has to be done or the electrical or the roof flashing. At least we are "saving" 30k by sending the kids to kindergarten instead of preschool.
Oh man. I wouldn't point out the bumper thing and hope they don't notice. Can you drop it off at a busy time? Good luck on both fronts. I would raise hell with the travel insurance.

That's my hope on the car.
There's really no hell to raise on the travel insurance. I'm not sure what the next steps would be. Airport closure isn't listed under the covered reasons for trip cancellation. BECAUSE WHO THE FUCK CLOSES AN AIRPORT FOR THREE MONTHS? Argentina, apparently. But seriously, every agent I talked to while trying to rebook the tickets was like, "What? The entire airport is closing?" Yes, yes it is.
That sucks about the trip. And I hear ya, 2016 has been rough on us. Needed a new furnace my first week of maternity leave, 3k, our one cat got sick and had to be put down, 1.5k, THEN we owed 5k on our taxes (don't even get me started), another 1k for my car, oh and just found out my escrow is short too...awesome.

I'm sorry about your kitty.
I had kind of put that out of my mind - we spent over $1k taking Fatty to the ophthalmologist this spring. Poor Fatty!

@angryharpy , there are a lot of nice bottles of Malbec and Rioja that you can get for under $12. And if white wine is your thing, Portuguese Vinho Verde is very affordable!

This all sounds familiar. Does he eat your shoes and want you to chase him while he crawls on all fours?
It really is amazing how much DD has in common with a dog.

LOL. Look at you and your $12 bottles of wine. We call that "fancy wine" in our house.
The rental car place did not notice the cracked bumper.
And I called Expedia today to finish canceling Argentina and to get a cancellation confirmation I could submit to the credit card. The agent was able to get one of the hotels to refund our entire reservation and the other hotel to refund 2 of our 3 nights! OMG! This means that even if I don't file with the credit card, we are only out $150 for our canceled trip!
