Those poor tortured martyrs, just trying to live their lives. That story was so hyperbolized and embellished, I can't believe anybody reading that would believe them enough to email the gardens about it.
Oh God, I can't believe I'm going to say this, after mocking them mercilessly previously, but I actually am Team Victorian Couple. I don't see how the Gardens can in good faith say that they can't accept them because according to the Gardens "they're in costume", if this is what this couple has decided to wear as their lifestyle, hipster as it is. What's the line between costume and not? Marketing? It's a very grey line.

Doesn't seem that grey to me. They don't live in Victorian times, therefore it's a costume. They have exceptions for religious attire, but this does not fall under that category as being an insufferable asshole is not a religion.
Plus you just know these people were going to turn this outing into a photo shoot, which is exactly what the gardens wants to avoid (from what I've read).

They say no costumes and no "historical dress," which these clothes obviously were. And the thing is, the couple had to know, despite their protestations, it says clearly that no historical dress is allowed. She claims they did extensive research, so they would have seen this.

The gardens clearly post the rule and don't infringe on any religious dress. Guys can't enter nightclubs if they don't follow the dress code. I used to have to offer a jacket to men who didn't wear one when I worked in fine dining. I don't think it's persecution. If anything, *these* people should understand being persnickety about things. Plus they suck.

Seriously, the Victorian times were alll about having strict rules for things. You would think it would make them feel right at home!

I'm imagining how pissed off they are at the article's title, "Faux Victorian couple. . . ", and that on the sidebar they link to the garden's etiquette rules but not to their blog. Double burn. lol
