I have a theory that someone over here is trying to stir up board drama and someone over there is trying to stir up board interest all to get us to migrate back.
I am a little sad about Julie though. There was a period where she seemed a lot friendlier and more open, and I thought the board was really supportive of her during her adoption journey. I'm honestly surprised she remains there as a regular poster; I figure she would've joined us here.
Also, the fired up librarian analogy is just plain weird.
Nothing beats the Indy Star comments after that Carmel basketball hazing/sexual assault scandal. NOTHING! These don't even compare, lol.
Oh shit, I missed that. And now they've switched it to like some weird hybrid FB comment posting thing, so it's not the same. But in the old days.... the comments section used to take you to a message board that looked a lot like proboards and you would have these elaborate discussions. One of my favorites was a discussion entitled "Toys for Tots of Irresponsible Parents." You can imagine how that one red. I mean, in 5 pages, those asswagons and merged bootstraps, "Am I still racist if I have a black friend?", "the real America", and "Let them eat cake." It was like going to see a tennis game and accidentally walking into the "Biological Rarities" tent at a 19th century Barnum and Bailey circus.
The winner of the Indy Star comments over the Carmel thing was the following:
"Well, what did you expect up there in Carmel? Bunch of homosexuals with that performing arts center they have. It's a hot bed of sexual deviation."

I died. I really died.
And yet RNC speaker Clint Eastwood used to be Mayor of Carmel.

I agree about Julie. I feel dumb being upset about someone on the internet, but I remember all her posts about her adoption situation, and I feel like we were friends. Then I read her tear apart a woman who did nothing but stand up for her friend's health, and I'm disgusted at her language and attitude.
Catsarenice and AndrewBreitbart are being paid by the nest to say absurdly ridiculous things like:
She's [Fluke's] most famous for whining about how taxpayers should pay for her friends' birth control.
It's really amazing. They had to go with Sandra---they didn't have any female politician of note? But I guess it makes sense because as Taranto says, she's a potent symbol of the 'Julia' of the DNC ads, needing government at every turn.
And
Elizabeth Warren is a very annoying speaker. She talks like a fired up librarian.
just to instigate CEP into returning.
I swear thenest's P&CE board has turned into the comments section on any political article appearing in the Indianapolis Star.
It won't work. I like to rip apart crazy idiots as much as the next flaming lib, but I don't have the energy or time to deal with them. I'm staying here.

I have, and always will, stay away from the Star's comment section. I used to hear the crap all day when I worked retail. I know enough about the opinions of people around here to want to give up hope and I really don't want to go full suicidal.

Do they still have the Let It Out column? That drove me insane; could never read it without getting ragey.

Okay, this is all I'll say about the Julie thing. She and I have a pretty good relationship off-board in that we talk on FB sometimes and I think she's a nice, grounded girl. I think she has become frustrated with the way things went on this board after the migration and the fact that the conservatives are more and more in the minority here. I know that has to be tough. I personally have a really hard time arguing an issue when I feel like I'm the only one on my side. But I'll say it, I like Julie a lot. I like chatting with her. I find her funny and smart even when we disagree. I do sometimes have a hard time separating someone's board persona from their real persona, but I am able to with her.
"This prick is asking for someone here to bring him to task Somebody give me some dirt on this vacuous mass so we can at last unmask him I'll pull the trigger on it, someone load the gun and cock it While we were all watching, he got Washington in his pocket."

??
Her obsession with Sandra Fluke.
Lyss - I'm glad it's just a "board persona" thing, but it still makes me uncomfortable. I can be friends with people that disagree with me, but she can be way over the top.

I do hope things are going well for her.
But I think the same can be said for others on this board.
I also am sad that she hasn't decided to stay here, but I can understand how she feels. Maybe she'll give us another try someday.....
Lyss - that actually makes me happy. I found her to be kind as well, which is why I'm sad about her staying over there. I get that she feels isolated because of her opinions, but I do hope she changes her mind and comes over here.
Julie has done nothing wrong. She is a founding member here and has always had a way with words when it comes to her political beliefs. As do many of you.
I hope she finds her way over to PB. And I hope we stop these 7th grade bull shit call out games, especially when said person isn't even around to defend herself.

I agree with heyjude. I do think sometimes a callout is necessary if someone is repeatedly crossing the line with us here. But bringing up stuff that's going on over there kind of makes me feel like a jilted ex who can't stop talking about the guy who dicked her over. And I was guilty of it before too, but I don't want to anymore.
