Five DeMatha players removed from program after incident involving prostitutes

Five DeMatha Catholic High School football players were removed from the program for an incident that occurred at the team hotel following the Stags’ season-opening win at Hillside (N.C.), according to two people with knowledge of the incident, including the parent of one of the players who withdrew from the school.
According to the parent, players hired prostitutes from a call service in North Carolina, and some engaged in sexual activities with those prostitutes in a hotel room. According to the two people with knowledge of the situation, the incident occurred at 5 a.m. on Saturday morning after DeMatha’s Friday night game.
The Post is not naming the five players, who are minors, and withholding the name of the parent to protect the identity of the child. The other person with knowledge of the incident spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the situation.
Two players withdrew from the school this week, two others have been recommended for expulsion pending appeal and a fifth faces a disciplinary hearing on Friday morning, according to both people familiar with the aftermath.
“I’m not able to” comment, said DeMatha Coach Elijah Brooks, in his second year leading the program. “There are still kids that have to go through the disciplinary hearing. I just can’t comment.”
The Hyattsville private school has a nationally known athletics program, and it is not unusual for its teams to travel out of state for competition.
It is unclear if any players beyond those facing disciplinary action were involved in the incident. The five players facing disciplinary actions were not starters for seventh-ranked DeMatha.
“As you know any disciplinary action that takes place at the school, I can’t legally or morally talk about discipline of any students,” DeMatha Principal Dan McMahon said. “If people break team rules, there are team sanctions, and if people break school rules, there are school sanctions.”
According to sources, bed checks were done at 1:30 a.m. A final hallway check was done at 4 a.m. and DeMatha had 18 adults supervising the trip, according to the person who is not a parent of an involved player.
“I can’t comment on anything except to say when people are on field trips they are exceptionally chaperoned,” McMahon said. “On this trip there was full coverage by supervisors and we are extremely pleased with the way we monitor kids and keep everybody safe.”
According to the parent of a player involved, players sneaked three prostitutes into the hotel at 5 a.m., after the final check. Players used a Web site to call and hire the prostitutes, according to the parent.
“My concern is where were the coaches and chaperones and how did this happen?” the parent said. “These are boys, you should have been on them, knocking on their doors. . . . Why are there [18] coaches at this hotel and kids are able to sneak three prostitutes in at 5 a.m.?”
WTF lady. It was 5 in the morning. Did you expect them to be parked on chairs in the hallway outside each player's room? This is probably why they thought they'd get away with it - permissive parents who blame everyone but their angels.
My guess is that they had this all planned out well ahead of time and found the websites/Craigslist ads before the trip. Probably this isn't the first time they've done it... just the first time they were caught.
Also, that must have been some mad googling skills, because Hillsdale isn't a booming metropolis.
oops, reading comprehension fail. Hillside, apparently it's in Durham? Definitely more booming than western NC. But still, super sketchy.
Yes, Hillside is in Durham. And to the OP, I completely agree about parent's wanting to blame someone else. The chaperone's did all they could do, it's not their fault your kid got caught doing something inappropriate.
Ewww to the mom that turned them into the school. You know she went storming in to complain the coaches didn't protect Little Johnnie from those horrible women who were out to seduce him. Way to get your son and his teammates expelled, jackass. I understand calling the other parents and strictly punishing her son but why complain to the school about it?

I think as a mom I might give the school a big huge WTFingF? But that would be behind closed doors and my kids would definitely see the rage directed toward them.
