I don't think it's rude to take 1/2 donut, if that's what you're asking. Did someone previously express dibs on the long john?
I, I mean spouse B, mean they don't want to eat a donut that a co-worker grabbed in order to split it.
How do you know they grabbed it, though? it's a sharp knife and/or maybe they used a napkin to hold it?
I remember going to a meeting where they had pizza. The lengths that people went to to avoid touching the crust of the piece they weren't taking was laughable. Especially since someone TOUCHED THE DOUGH to make it in the first place!!
Spouse A. If there is a variety of flavors but only one of each, it is nice to not take all of one flavor.
Maybe this needs a poll but seriously- I wish when people brought in donuts, they'd bring in a majority of just basic donuts. The fancy flavors don't get taken 1/2 the time.
It's just like pizza (back to that again) - people will say "Oh, I'll eat anything!!!", then they are the ones who always go for the cheese first and leave the hawaiian pizza for those who DON'T eat "anything".

So true! I'm the only vegetarian at my office so I normally get something simple if we do anything. But for sweets things or bagels, get normal stuffs. No need to get everything special.
I actually understand not wanting to commit to a whole donut. But there are more partial donuts here than people! And the 1/4 donut is killing me. Like who leaves one bite of a donut? Haha.
And yeah, I am a napkin user or I make sure to take the piece that I touch, when necessary. But this is a small office and I can say with certainty that I'm the only one here who bothers with such things.
(wilted) This is me right here. I also have my own full set of cutlery in my bag. It came in handy for lunch, and for things like community jelly bean dishes (if the host doesn't provide one) . I try not to think about people that just grab those candies without a spoon, especially during flu season. :?
Well... community candy that isn't wrapped is another issue all together.
But to be clear - use your cutlery! I don't care. I just had to laugh to myself the first time I saw multiple people doing this in a meeting.
Splitting donuts is the norm in both places I've worked. Gives people the chance to only eat half or to try multiples. Cutting is done with a knife and a napkin (if one person is cutting them all) or they get cut one at a time with the person that holds one side while cutting taking the side they man-handled. So, I'm with him. I mean spouse A
Let's put it this way - I'd MUCH rather see a 1/2 donut where SOME care was made to not slobber all over it (i.e. the knife was there!) so that someone else could have some vs seeing a 1/2 eaten donut in the trash.

Maybe I wasn't clear. My point was that I can accept not being up for eating entire donut as justification for splitting and taking only half. But in order to sample all the flavors? Annoying. It's not like these are rare artisan flavors. Just pick one.
ETA but I think it's been established that I'm over invested.

Wait 5 people in the office, you haven't had a donut or partial donut so whoever is doing this is just trying flavors? Yeah maybe I'm the only one bothered by this, but I'm bothered. If you want a whole donut, pick one. You can pick a different one later if you want another or half of another. Give other people a chance to pick one donut or one half before you sample everything.
If you want half a donut, use a knife and a napkin or maybe take the other half of one that has already been cut instead of leaving a bunch of pieces.
We used to have some here who liked to sample and wasn't always using a knife to make clean cuts (tearing things in half, using a fork to split a muffin, noone knew). Noone would ever take the mangled remaining parts left behind so it was just as wasteful as taking two whole ones and only eating half. Plus other people would get frustrated that they didn't get an option to have a whole nonmangled thing.
It's seems like basic courtesy to take one and wait to go back for more until everyone has had one if they want one. Taking half of a bunch of things seems to go against this to me.
One person taking ONE half-donut, because they do not want a whole donut, is fine.
One person taking MULTIPLE half-donuts, because they want to try several flavors, is obnoxious. Particularly if them doing so means that there aren't enough whole donuts to go around for everyone else.
No, taking a half doughnut because you only want half is NOT okay. All or nothing. No one wants half a doughnut you probably touched and squished. This happens at my work. No one ends up eating the other half because who the fuck knows what happened to it. So it wastes the other half.
Maybe I have gross coworkers because I would never take the second half of a doughnut. It's too questionable. At family function? Sure, we are family and close. At work? No.

Yes!
Going around trying all the donuts is something that a 5 year old would do!
I am the donut bringer 80% of the time (though not today) so I feel like I can complain.
FTR, I always buy at least two of my first choice donut so I don't feel bad about taking the only one. But today apparently I was the a-hole because I went straight for the chocolate Bavarian cream and took the entire supply.

I fundamentally disagree with this "all or nothing." Why be wasteful?
At my office we regularly go halvsies on the donuts, and it really is quite easy to cut a donut without touching the half you don't eat. Finger on half you do want, knife down the middle, walla!
