Here is the backstory: Elias and Rose found last year's costumes (two mermaid costumes and a pirate costume.) and wanted to be the same things as last year. Great! I get to save money. Then, went to Costco with them and Eli NEEDED to be an astronaut and Rose NEEDED the pink princess costume. (She lovesssss pink. Will literally ONLY wear pink. Tried to take her clothes off in the store to wear the costume.) So, I bought two of the princess costumes because I was unsure of her size. I got the 5/6 and the 3/4. Jane would fit in the 3/4 for sure, but the 5/6 might be a little big on Rose, at least in length, but I wasn't sure if the 3/4 would be too small. I haven't tried them on her because I know she would not take it off. So my question, would I just dress Jane up in the smaller size and have them both be princesses or should I have her be something else? She will not be able to choose a costume and has zero interest in this sort of thing. Should I have her wear a mermaid costume from last year? That would be weird since Eli and Rose changed their minds, right? Also, Jane will probably not last long trick or treating since she dislikes walking and holding hands, last time we ended up just pushing her in a stroller. She also haaaated the way her costume felt and will probably hate the way most of them feel and doesn't like any sort of accessory in her hair or anything like that. She couldn't wear the headband, necklace or gloves that went with her mermaid costume last year.
What should I do?
Oh, then there's my toddler sized baby. I have an old dragon costume that Eli wore when he was 18 months that will probably fit Ezra (he will be 10.5 months on Halloween)
Obviously there is no theme going on....
(Oh and I can easily return whichever princess costume I have as an extra)
I definitely wouldn't worry about a theme. And I wouldn't worry about rose and Jane being the same thing. I'd worry about making everyone as happy and comfortable as possible because they'll so dang cute no matter what they wear!
Can you find Jane a costume that isn't actually a costume so she'll be more comfortable? Like the pajama onesies I just got for my kids. They have superhero, elsa, MLP, and other animals Or I saw cute food costumes (cookie, donut...) at target that just hang over the shoulders. Maybe she could do that?

I like this idea if it would work better for Jane! I agree that all your options are fine, and the best choice would be whatever makes everyone happy (and is hopefully the least work for you).

Sure themes can be cute but I say let them be whatever they want! I love the idea of something not too costumey for Jane, let her be as comfortable as possible, she's adorable no matter what!

I agree with a PJ type/sensory friendly costume for Jane. Don't worry about them matching! And I wouldn't put her in an uncomfortable costume if she isn't going to enjoy it.

I think you should do what she'd be most comfy in! I don't think you need to stick to a theme; I'm not doing any theme with my 3. I lol'd at toddler sized baby.
I don't really care about a theme (Eli and rose don't fit a theme being an atronaut and princess lol) or them matching, I just don't even know what to pick for her and feel like using a costume from last year would be weird since Eli and Rose have different things, and I do happen to have two of the princess ones since I was unsure of Roses size...
But I do like the idea of something more comfortable like pj type stuff- maybe I'll just find a frozen theme something because she likes that movie... Or maybe I'll just go check out once upon a child or something. It's just hard having no direction! Lol
