On my phone, so I can't c&p the whole article. 5 bombs were found in a backpack at a NJ train station not far from NYC last night, one of which exploded when a bomb squad robot was trying to disarm it. Train service has resumed, but I'll admit I'm very nervous about the fact that H is currently on the train.
Many thoughts and prayers to those of you in the area.
Thanks. I'll admit part of me wanted to push H to work from home today. I didn't but I kind of wish I had, despite knowing that that would be accomplishing the terrorists goals.

H is on his way to NYC now via Amtrak. I saw they'd found devices last night on the news and was hoping they'd rescheduled his court case but I guess not. Then woke up to the news of one exploding. Hoping they round up the perpetrators quickly and there are no further incidents.

Definitely scary, a friend of mine was in the area and posted pictures on FB of the police activity last night at the station. Is this connected to the jersey shore and chelsea incidents from the weekend?
My thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by this.

Did he travel from the south via northeast regional line? Were there any delays? My boyfriend has a flight to catch out of JFK and is taking Amtrak up this morning, but I assume he's still sleeping. The website didn't give any specific info about delays, so just curious if he should expect any delays catching his flight.

You can always check www.amtrak.com and it will show you the delays for the trains. You can also use this - its an unofficial track a train which shows the locations of all amtrak trains by number. Green means on time, yellow is delayed, red is very delayed.
The NEC main line used by amtrak is on the same line as the Elizabeth station, so there is definitely the possibility of delays, but you can see that the 2100 got through the affected zone without too much trouble.

I've been checking it online. It said it was delayed leaving Wilmington, but getting into NYP 6 minutes early. I don't know if it was really delayed or not.

I'm glad that he arrived at work safely. This is all so scary. I'll say a prayer for a safe commute home tonight for him and for everyone else who is commuting.
Man, this is so upsetting. For a number of reasons.
It's sobering to think of how many people could've been seriously hurt or killed in these three recent incidents. I know there were people hurt in NYC but it seems like they're all out of the hospital now at least.
The radio DJs this morning said that the explosives in Elizabeth were discovered by homeless people who were digging through the trash. And one DJ said, "Thank God they were there!" Which ... yeah, it's fortunate that they found the explosives and said something in time, but the fact that these explosives were discovered only because someone was rifling through the trash looking for food ... man.
I have friends who work for the NJ Transit and Port Authority police. Plus friends who ride the train to get into the city for work. And NYC is so close that I - and most people I know around here - are constantly saying spontaneously, "Hey, let's go into the city tonight to do stuff" and we get on the train or drive through the Holland Tunnel.
If there's a terror cell, then it's more than just this one guy they're hunting. So who knows what's going to happen in the meantime before they catch him. And the Seaside blast wasn't anywhere near a train station so it could be totally random rather than a pattern against mass transit.
I popped into the cafeteria at work this morning to grab some breakfast, and their TV is always tuned to Fox News (barf). The big banner headline: TERRORIST REFUGEES! So now the hate against them is just going to continue, and probably the violence as well. (Never mind the fact that they guy they're looking for is a U.S. citizen.)
And Trump is probably pleased as punch with all of this because it means more fearful idiots embracing his racist mantras.

Fuck. NYT says intense manhunt on for a man who officials are saying is connected to the explosions/bombs in Chelsea, Seaside AND Elizabeth, NJ (the man lives in Elizabeth).
He was born in Afghanistan, so let's brace ourselves for Trump's upcoming statements.
My phone popped up with one of those amber alert style warnings, only with a name and a message to call 911 if he's seen.
I hate this. I hate that I have to go in to Chelsea today. I hate that my fear means the terrorists are winning. I hate that this means increased prejudice against Muslims. I hate that this plays into Trump's rhetoric.

I received one of those emergency texts on my phone this morning (like the Amber alerts and severe weather warnings). I imagine everyone in our area did?

I didn't. So I didn't know what was going on until I got to work and my co-workers were telling me. I take the Goethals to work but aside from a major accident because no one knows how to drive in the rain, I didn't notice anything strange happening in Elizabeth (but I'm also not sure where the train station is in relation to the bridge).
ETA: Hmmmm, it might have helped if I had turned on the setting to receive emergency alerts on my phone...
I was supposed to take the train line that runs past the Elizabeth stop into the city this morning then back to where I teach after lunch. As I was parking, there were signs saying the line would be stopped and using buses as needed. Since I can't be late to my classes, I took it as a sign to bail on my meeting. However, parking lot was as full as normal and everyone seemed calm.
