DH just called me saying that when he and his parents were pulling up/digging up stuff in our back yard that they found a suitcase buried there. It's duct-taped and heavy.
It of course could be any number of things, but to be safe we're going to call the non-emergency police line to have them assist us.
OMG, good call on the police. Please update when you find out what it is!
What's the history on your house?
ETA: Was it buried under a big W?
Not sure where they found it, TBH. I'll know more when I get home from work. House was built in 1997, and we purchased the home from the original owners. They were a married couple without children, AFAIK. I know the husband's health was failing when we bought the house, and that's why they were selling - to move closer to family.

Your family has so much more restraint (and good sense) than I do - I would have cracked that puppy open as soon as I found it, instantly assuming that it was full of cash or old Apple stock certificates.
My mind went to "time capsule" first ... there's at least one those in my mom's yard from when my siblings were little. I think theirs was two Solo cups filled with stuff and then sealed shut with duct tape around the middle.
With the update on the couple, though, I'm gonna go with those who said it could be a family pet.
I'm eagerly awaiting an update! I thought time capsule first but that is huge!
If I was burying a body though, I wouldn't want to put it in a plastic case.
Right? Or "seal it" with duct tape.
Whoever buried it clearly doesn't watch L&O or Forensic Files. Hellooooo hair and fibers and transfer DNA and fingerprints and bodies don't degrade in plastic, duh!
