I am now seeing a fifth victim has died. The shooter is still at large.
This is awful. How many fucking shootings will have to happen before our country sees we have a gun problem? That question is rhetorical, because I don't think that will ever ever happen.
I really hope this guy doesn't get Burger King after they arrest his ass.
Yeah that sure would be terrible about this whole thing.
I think she's alluding to Dylann Roof and the discrepancy between how white terrorists / mass murderers are treated by the cops vs how unarmed black men are.
I live here where this is happening. I promise you we are not worried about the burger king. It did not read that way. We are more concerned about how this guy is at large. How he will be treated when/if they find him, is not the concern at this second.
Agree. Having him at large, with reports from the scanner all night long that someone (presumably him) was trying to break into houses is scary. Supposedly they recovered a firearm last night, but no details on what kind, as well as if it was his who knows if it was the only one he had.
I'm so glad they caught him! This is local-ish to me too (about an hour north), and so scary and sad. I'm so sick of these things happening.
Very local to me as well. My XH and his wife and son live in the town where he was captured. I lived there for a number of years; my kids grew up there and went to school there. I lived in the town where the shooting occurred, worked near the mall. My daughter bought her wedding ring and wedding dress there. It's where we used to meet the girls' mom and the only Chuck E. Cheese I will deign to eat at. DD1 was there just last week, when she was visiting with her husband and kids (he came in for a week, she was here for five while he was on the boat - he's Navy) from Virginia. She actually messaged me in real-time to ask if I was hearing about it, because one of her best friends was at the mall, had just walked to the doors, when the police came and shut the mall down. The mall is closed until Monday.
The shooter is a 20 year old with a history of drug and alcohol use and assault. He was born in Turkey but moved here as a young child; he was stated as being a permanent resident of the US. He was seen just wandering the streets of Oak Harbor carrying a laptop/bag when a police officer saw him and he was arrested.
So hard to believe this happened in a town where I lived for many years. Well, knowing Oak Harbor, maybe not so hard. There is an underside that is really developing rapidly with a pronounced drug culture. OTOH, I am glad that it doesn't appear to be terror related; as the shooter is Turkish and from a Navy town it could have been quite possible to pull that story out.
