Who has had them and what do you do when you have one? Pretty sure that's what I have and I am fcking miserable. Typically the ones I have had are small and pass pretty quickly, but I feel like this one is further down (back?) and it's causing ear pain too. What can I do? And don't say, "get your tonsils taken out" because I'm scared AF to have that done. lol
I don't think I've ever had one cause pain, but I've definitely gotten big ones that I can feel just hanging around and it gets annoying.
I generally can either do that thing like you're going to hock a loogie and it comes out, or I'll take a Qtip and just poke around and either the poking or the gagging will make it dislodge.
I don't know much about tonsil stones, but one of my best friends used to struggle with them and she swears the new liquid probiotic she started taking got rid of them. She was super pumped since she only started taking it for general health and then her tonsil stones went away.
I have no idea if it will work the same for everyone, but figured I'd mention it.

I use q-tips or the rounded side of the toothpicks I have to press it out. I have had a few hurt, and made me think I was getting strep because of the weird feeling, but I wouldn't say I've been 'miserable' so it may be worth getting looked.
Ugh I get them too. I don't poke around and hope they will dislodge on their own. I usually don't feel them but I had one on Friday that dislodged and I felt like I had more.
I read that using a q-tip and carefully pressing around helps.
I don't know wtf a tonsil stone is and I never even heard of them until I came here and I've never heard of them in any other context, either, but the thought of them makes my toes curl. If ever there was a need for a trigger warning.
Uh well, thanks? That makes those of us afflicted with them feel great I'm sure.

helpful.
mdndc it's not uncommon for them to cause ear pain, in my experience.
Those of you who dig yours out, do you just search around for them or can you see them? I never see mine and I know they can hide. Now I am worried I am hoarding tons and all I want to do is go home and search my tonsils.

You're right. That was really thoughtless of me. I'm very sorry.
Sorry, pregnancy hormones are in high gear today and I'm touchy about the fact that I feel like I always stink lately, and since tonsil stones can cause bad breath that's part of it.

I personally wasn't offended. I had no idea what they were until I got my first one. They are so gross. the thought of trying to dislodge it makes me want to vomit. I'm a baby.

Nonetheless, it was still thoughtless of my to treat someone else's valid concern so blythely. I'm sorry to you, too.

Seriously, get your tonsils out! I know you don't want to hear it, but it was so worth it to me. I don't get nasty tonsils stone and I don't get sick nearly as much as I used to. And the whole bad breath thing is gone too. It is worth the temporary pain.

I believe you are referring to "bad breath balls"
I tried pursuing these with my doctor who weirdly tried biopsying them and was just looking at me strangely...after that I kind of vowed to leave them alone and they did resolve on their own.
