My coworker fact-checked me today... and I really did think Sarah Palin said something about being able to see Russia from her house in Alaska, but she really just said you can see Russia from an island in Alaska. SNL said "... from my house."
So it is that one of the quotes most strongly associated with former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin is the exclamation "I can see Russia from my house!" even though she didn't actually utter that phrase during the campaign.
The basis for the line was Governor Palin's 11 September 2008 appearance on ABC News, her first major interview after being tapped as the vice-presidential nominee. During that appearance, interviewer Charles Gibson asked her what insight she had gained from living so close to Russia, and she responded: "They're our next-door neighbors, and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska":

Two days later, on the 2008 season premiere of Saturday Night Live, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler appeared in a sketch portraying Sarah Palin and Hillary Clinton, during which Fey spoofed Governor Palin's remark of a few days earlier with the following exchange:
FEY AS PALIN: "You know, Hillary and I don't agree on everything ..."
POEHLER AS CLINTON: (OVERLAPPING) "Anything. I believe that diplomacy should be the cornerstone of any foreign policy."
FEY AS PALIN: "And I can see Russia from my house."

I'm Re-Re-watching Drop Dead Diva, and it's on the best eps, it's Liza Minnelli and Delta Burke playing psychic sisters who are suing each other. BEST EPISODE!
This week needs to get over itself. Every day is just more bad news. Today it was a friend with a tumor. It's not me, it's not H but every day I'm crying for someone else.
So, as a way to wash this mess of a week away, H and I are going to our local Brew at the Zoo Friday night. We weren't originally going due to Saturday night plans but due to some bad news this week, the Saturday event was cancelled.

My H decided to ride his bike home from work (he texted me). He has yet to buy lights for his bike and it's close to being black out there. I am scared for him. If he doesn't die, I'm going to yell so loudly at him for his stupidity.
I "let" H takes photos of me last night, which I never do. But he was taking photos of the girls so I tagged along and promised myself I wouldn't hate what he took. Well I hate what he took. He just sent me, what he claims are, the 2 best and they're terrible

As part of our United Way stuff, my department is going to the Ronald McDonald House on Friday to prepare food for the families staying there. Last year, I made an applesauce cake and lemon bars, other people made egg casseroles, cakes, chicken pot pie - stuff like that. They ask for things that can feed a crowd, freeze well, and aren't too heavy. Everything went into 9x13 aluminum pans.
Any suggestions? I was thinking ziti, but I'd like to make something else, too.

I just finished part 1 of my election training, and the room was full of elderly people making bitchy comments about the other elderly people in the room. It was actually kinda funny.

Those are all great things. Lasagna is good or stuffed peppers. Oh and soups. At the house where I used to volunteer we love for groups to do taco bars, grilled items (hot dogs, hamburgers), gumbo, etc. I'll start volunteering at my new house soon. This is an amazing thing to do for the families that are there. Thank you for participating.
