Oh and you can take the monorail to the Magic Kingdom and take the ft. wilderness boat from there. If you have the disney visa, that's a good time to get your redemption card. The kids and I hung out and people/boat watched while H got the card, then we took the boat to Ft. Wilderness. There is a play ground within walking distance of both the BBQ and HDDR, so if you get there early they can burn off some energy.

I just signed up for the Disney visa
Care to explain further the redemption card
Charge and pay off everything you use money for between now and your trip. You'll accrue "disney dollars" for each purchase. With the regular card its $1 for every $100 spent on the card. With the premier visa you get $2 for every $100 spent on gas, groceries, restaurants and Disney purchases. $1 for everything else. When you get to the parks you can go to a window outside of the Magic Kingdom gates or at Disney Springs and get your "redemption card". It's basically a gift card that you can use anywhere in the parks, with the rewards dollars you "earned". It's pretty much covered our meals on all of our trips. (we dont' do the dining plan) You also have 6 months to pay off your vacation, interest free, if your final payment is made on the disney visa.
edit to add: the lines for the redepmtion cards, suck, so factor in a long wait time. I want to say it's usually half an hour to an hour. They are always long, but it makes more sense to wait till you get there to get it. If you ask for it to be mailed, you miss out on any purchases made between then and your trip. Save

Regarding the mac and cheese:
They have a vegetarian menu that has plain buttered noodles or pasta with sauce, or you can ask them for kid favorites, like mac and cheese. I believe they grab that stuff from Trails End ( the buffet next door).

You can get your redemption card mailed to you and then transfer the new points online. I've done this several times and it's much easier than standing in line! I think you may need more than $10 in points to transfer, so I get the redemption card a couple of months before the trip and then transfer the last points just before the trip.
Originally I assumed hddr the day we arrived (4 show) and good nights rest
looks fun, good way to start vacation and food looks like my kids would like it plus wine!
now I'm torn
would young kids like characters better at mickeys bbq? We would be going on a Saturday so open but 5:30 not 4 similar food
Depends on your kids. My kid LOVES HDDR but isn't that into characters.
fwiw we would do several character meals throughout the week but which is better ?
Kids will be 5,4,2 and 7m
also so best way to get there from poly is 2 boats - ply to MK and MK to ft wilderness? How long does this take? How home? How long?
You can also monorail to Contemporary and take the boat to Ft Wilderness from there. Give yourself an hour and a half ( it will probably take 30 minutes but just to be safe) there is a little playground right near Pioneer Hall the kids can play on if you are early.
Now really important q - beer wine or sangria? Is it plentiful or like 1-2 glasses?
You can ask them to leave the pitcher.
Also ive read hddr offers Mac m cheese if you ask can anyone confirm this?
