I'm still trying to find stuff that works in my hair. I swapped a Miss Jessies sample in my birchbox with a friend of mine and it made my hair super soft. Miss Jessies Quick curls. I have the curly pudding but I havent tried it yet.

First, go to naturallycurly.com if you haven't already. It is a really great resource for curly-haired women.
I have a fairly low maintenance process, but my curls are usually in well-defined ringlets (I have type 3 curls). I do not use shampoo unless I am going to straighten my hair or get rid of excess product. I typically wash only with conditioner. Lately I have been using Costco's Kirkland Signature conditioner. It comes in a huge bottle with a pump, is inexpensive, and has no sulfates or other additives. I comb through my hair in the shower while the conditioner is still in. Once I'm out of the shower, I use leave-in-conditioner (Infusium) and gel (I think it's LA Looks) and sometimes Aveda's Smooth Infusion and scrunch my hair.
I use Pantene Curly shampoo and conditioner. When I get out of the shower, I wrap it in a towel for a couple min and then spray Frizz Ease Curly Spray and let it air dry ( m.ulta.com/mt/www.ulta.com//ulta/browse/productDetail.jsp?productId=xlsImpprod2730195 ) You can find it at the grocery store. My usual style is curly bc I dont have the time or patience to dry and straighten it.
I use the Aussie Deeeeeep Conditioner, Unite 7 Second Leave-In Conditioner, and Herbal Essence Volumizer Mousse. That's it besides a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner.
ETA: I use the Aussie Deeeep Conditioner about 2 times per week and use the Unite leave-in conditioner whenever I don't use the Aussie brand in the shower.
How heavy are these products? I have quite a defined wave on the bottom of my hair, that doesn't suit much of what I throw at it. It's fine too, a lot of it. I'm a walking oxymoron. Hehe.
I don't do much with my hair, but I avoid washing too often. Some people have to wash their hair every day or every other day. I wash my hair maybe once a week. Shampoo dries my hair out. My hair got oily quickly when I first started waiting, but now I could go two weeks before it gets oily.

I have 3a/3b hair, I cowash with vo5 moisture milks, rinse out tressemme naturals, leave in a bit of the vo5, seal with glycerine, lots of lalooks sport gel mixes with a pea sized amount of biosilk rock hard gelee , scrunched In while soaking wet and upside down, plop with a tshirt, clip the top with roller clamps for lift, air dry and scrunch out the crunch with glycerine gel.
Just wanted to throw in that I use Morrocan Oil instead of a gel to keep the frizz at bay and I love it. I also use the Pantene Curly line of shampoo/conditioner. I'll have to check out this curly hair web site now and look into a microwave fiber towel.

I may be mistaken, but I believe Moroccan oil and Pantene curly line all contain silicones
All I'm using now is Wen as a cleansing conditioner, one pump of Wen as a leave in and Kinky Curly Curling Custard for gel... And my hair has never looked better.
And I agree with the people who recommend a tshirt for drying instead if a towel. Go on YouTube and search "plopping". Another thing that changed my life. In fact, I'm plopping right this minute!
Pantene definitely contains silicones... Lots of them. My hair likes a bit of the old 'cones, but not everyone's does. Although, even without the 'cones, I've had a ton of hairdressers go off about how bad Pantene is for your hair.

Your hair is long like mine, do you plop with one tshirt and scrunch with another? If I don't, my hair never dries.
Teamwilliams- I only use one tshirt. I don't scrunch because I try to avoid friction on my curls whenever possible. I plop while I'm getting ready (dressing, makeup) and then I diffuse my hair using the "pixie" method. Here's a link to an explanation about the method. Another hair life-changer for me!

and typing?! You are impressive! Congrats on getting knockered up!
Multi-tasked extraordinaire. I also read while I dry my hair. My routine is so involved and wastes so much time that I like to multi task. Lol!
And THANKS!!! My first appt is in a little under two weeks. I'm excited, and nervous.
Thanks for posting this! I stumbled on it from the "new topics" and I am so glad I did! I am in desparate need of a shake up in my hair routine. My curls are looking sad these days and I am ready to toss all of my products and start over.
I have a stupid question though...where can I buy DEVA products? It seems like as good a place to start as any (but I am totally going to get the TJ teatree conditioner, it sounds yummy!) Thanks!

I didn't start with deva products, I started with the inexpensive products I listed above, I have tried many others and always go back to the cheapies

I don't go curly in the winter because it's too cold but for the summer I do Garnier Frutis Sleek & Shine shampoo & conditioner and then I do a leave in. The last thing I use is the Garnier cream gel. I also dry my hair with a microfiber-that helps a lot.

For me (2C): Neutrogena Triple Moisture shampoo and conditioner, Pantene 3 minute miracle deep conditioner, Suave Keratin leave in conditioner, Just for Me curl cream, Loreal Eversleek syrum
For DD (3B): Shea Moisture shampoo, Kinky Curly conditioner, Pantene 3 minute miracle deep conditioner, Loreal Eversleek leave in cream, Mixed Silk gel, Kinky Curly curling custard, Just for Me curl cream
A lot of the leave ins depend on the time of year and the humidity level. I don't use them all at the same time. A lot of it depends on your hair too. Some products that look really great in DD's hair look horrible in mine and vice versa.

I agree. There's a good chance your curls may not like the first 86 bottles of hair product you buy, so there's no sense in starting out on the pricier end of things. Start at the drugstore. Cheap. Then work your way through things.
Thanks guys! I am all about cheap ;-) I definitely want to try sulfate/silicone free shampoo and cond. I feel like this will help a lot. I already alternate shampoo/just rinsing. My biggest problem (besides needing a haircut and having a 1 yr old encroaching on my primping time) is that I haven't found the right product that will give me enough hold too keep my curls nice and frizz free, without looking crunchy.

Yes! Wait til your hair is completely dry and the LIGHTLY scrunch your hair. It breaks up the crystalline structure of the gel so your curls are soft, but you still have the hold of the gel. If you scrunch it out, you won't feel the gel in your hair anymore.
i use giovanni 50:50 shampoo and alberto v05 conditioner in the shower. afterwards, i use aussie's mousee + leave-in conditioner and sometimes, LA Looks sport gel.
