There was a comment in the randoms thread that made me think about this -- what palette do you have (or have you returned) that you were most disappointed in?
Mine would have to be my MAC Nordstrom Naturals palette, which was one of the first palettes that I got (it was a gift, so I did not return it). The colors are nice, but it's overall pretty dry and fairly difficult to work with (especially the mattes). Every once in awhile I revisit it hoping that maybe I've gotten better at application and might have more luck with it, because it does have some really nice shades. But so far my attemps just remind me that compared to the rest of my collection, that one is a dud.
Most disappointing for me was the Hourglass Edit palette. There were only 2 powders that worked for me and I couldn't justify keeping it for $80. I had been so excited for that palette too:( My current disappointing palette that I own is the Revealed 3 palette but I got it in a subscription box so it's not something I would have bought on my own. Some shades are pretty good but most are a miss.
A Bobbie brown navy palette. One of the square ones where the bottom is like a drawer that slides out. It looked sooooooo pretty. The quality is worse than drugstore. No color payoff and just looks muddy. I actually get angry when I think about it and will never buy another bb eyeshadow again. And if I ever see her in person I will give her a squinty eye evil look and she will think to herself, "oh, that girl must have bought my navy eyeshadow palette."
The Balm Nude tude. It was one of my first palette purchases, and I didn't read reviews or swatches. I just bought it because I thought it was pretty and the colors looked neutral enough. I rarely use it now. Most of the browns are too warm, and I don't like the tone of the pinks or golds.
It Naturally Pretty, I had wanted this palette for over a year before I finally bit the bullet and I just didn't love it. I still use it occasionally, but I thought it would be amazing instead of just so so.

This is mine too. I'm not sure if I should toss it or try to use it up so it's gone. The shadows don't blend well at all or go on well for me.

Too Faced Sugar Pop. The shadows are beautiful, good staying power/color payoff, but too warm for me, and I always end up feeling really self conscious wearing the bright colors, so I never reach for it.
To be fair, I only have 4 total pallets (Naked 2, LM Eye Art Artist, and CG TruNaked Roses are the other 3)
My biggest disappointment is Smashbox Cherry Smoke. It's not it; it's me. I think the quality is good but the colors just don't quite fit my day to day needs.

Thank you for saying this. I thought it was just me! The mattes don't blend and go on patchy. The shimmers are kind of blah. I keep trying to use it so I can at least make a dent. I think I've used it maybe five times total. But I feel bad getting rid of it.
Lancôme Audacity. I was so excited when I first saw it. But the texture just isn't silky or rich enough. The shimmer in the shimmery colors aren't fine enough.
But a complaint I have with so many palettes is the over represented dark colors. I never use them--but I don't do smoky eyes and I prefer eyeliner to dark shadow to line my eyes.
I have some much older Tarte palettes that are pretty disappointing. They were LE or holiday sets. The shadows are pretty powdery without much color payoff.
I rarely use the TF Rock and Roll palette. I got it in a holiday grab bag and really should have just given it away. The colors don't work well on me, and it's so glittery with a ton of fallout.
Laura Mercier Artist Palette. I gave it away and it looks WAY better on my neighbor.
Urban Decay Naked Ultimate Basics is in the running though. I really love the rust shade, but everything else just looks like muddy browns on me. I want the rust shade as a single. I thought I loved the palette because of that shade, but I've been contemplating returning it.
Anyone regret MUFE Artist 1 Nudes, Too Faced Boudoir Eyes, or Too Faced Natural Eyes?

This may be another for me too. The shadows are very dry for me so application is always a bit tough, a lot of the colors don't have much color pay off for me, and they tend to get muddy. I still like it, but I feel like I have to work pretty hard to get the look I want with the palette.

Yes! The only shade I would want to buy as a single is African Violet. The other purples are disappointing. I realized that I have Clinique freebies that have better purple color payoff and that was the tipping point for me.
Not disappointed in the palette exactly but I feel like I should use it more. My husband loves buying me eye shadow palettes especially the more "out there" ones (I think it is the former art student in him) and I feel bad not using them more but how many occasions can one use the UD Electric palette? I try to use it for concerts but I always forget so it looks brand new. And a few of the colors say they are not approved for use on eyes?
Sadly I think I'm starting to lose my love for the LM artist palette too, other than African Violet. I agree that I have a hard time keeping them from getting muddy.

I picked up the nude MUFE palette in a swap here and I haven't been blown away by it. I should probably try to give it a real shot to decide if I should pass it along.

Thank you, this helps. It might work out better to buy singles of the shadows I'm most excited about instead. I still want to swatch the Too Faced palettes. I've been thinking about both for years.
Well, I returned the most recent UD Vice because it was terrible. But of the palettes that I have kept, I reach for the Tarte Energy Noir the least. I love the blush in it, but for some reason, the shadows just don't read well on me.

I have the MUFE palette, but it makes my eyes itch. It's yours if you want it. I just need to find it as we just moved and it's still packed.
I have both the TF boudoir eyes and naturals palettes and really like them both.

Yes, I would love it. Thank you! Do you want anything in return? I'm sorry it makes your eyes itch. I hate it when I buy something and it does that.

My most disappointing palette would be Vice2. I just don't reach for it much and I don't think the payoff is as good as other UD palettes. I always think I want more color in shadows, but then don't really do much with them.
