My DH wants to quit his job. He's miserable so I'm ok with it but I kinda need him to make a decision one way or another, because I'm not the patient listening type.
I'm in such a rut right now and want to run away! In 10 days my BIL and SIL (my fav people in the world) are coming to visit and the week after that my 2 BFFs are coming for a weekend. So I'm taking a ton of days for that ... and I am really excited, but damn, it can't come soon enough and while I can't wait to spend time with everyone, it's gonna be a lot of Boston history for two weeks!.
“With sorrow—for this Court, but more, for the many millions of American women who have today lost a fundamental constitutional protection—we dissent,”
I have a colonoscopy tomorrow which means I get to prep today.
Even though I'm cranky about the inconvenience and discomfort, it's awesome to get paid to stay at home and cuddle my dogs. The last time I did this I was a graduate student. I remember sitting in 4-hr lecture the morning of my colonoscopy trying to ignore cramping and dehydration. Never again!
I can't believe it's only Wednesday either. What I really can't believe is that the weekend was just a few days ago. It feels like I've been working for weeks without any breaks lol.
sfy, do you get Columbus Day off? I love all the fall/winter holidays. We get an extra this yr w/inauguration day.
PSA to be vigilant about charities. I got a call yesterday from a guy claiming to raise money for VA hospitals (or something). He was polished, sounded legit. I didn't think it was a fraud. He asked if he could send info to our house, I said sure. I asked if it was a 501(c)(3), he said yes. Then he started pushing me to make a donation over the phone. I declined, saying we liked the research charities before deciding to give. He pushed again, I again repeated that we would look at the financials of the charity and the cause before giving. Since he was getting pushy, I noted there's a fair amount of fraud and perhaps too much overhead in a lot of veteran's charities (ahem, Wounded Warriors) so I said we would want to see for ourselves. Then he hung up. Googled the number, total scammer.
No, we don't get it off. I wish. One of my coworkers was just grumbling about that yesterday, which I thought was odd, because we've never gotten it off and it seems like a holiday where more people aren't off than are? But I guess she just wants an extra day off and I do not blame her.

If you haven't seen it, google John Oliver's piece on Columbus Day - "why is this still a thing." Hilarious.
But I'm sorry. If it's any consolation, feds have to work or take off the day after Thanksgiving.

Not at all lol. In practice, I think misery actually rarely loves company. I'm sorry though, because that sucks. How is anyone supposed to work with all that tryptophan dragging them down.
Oh, nicechicken, that reminds me of something I read last night that may help with your STTN issue. I will find it and post it in your thread. Save

I'm sad that our piano is worthless. I had a piano guy out to look at the baby grand piano the sellers left. It isn't worth fixing. There are so many things the sellers didn't take care of, but this one makes me sad instead of mad. It isn't a Steinway or anything, but why would you let a piano fall apart? There goes my hopes of getting back into playing and getting my kids lessons.
I am the worst at avoiding Facebook drama. I do really good and the someone says something so mindblowingly stupid and offensive that I feel the need to ask them very hard questions I know they can't answer until they flounce out.
I'm trying hard to stay out of it today, but someone better get ready to take several seats.
I'm over this week. Everything and everyone is annoying. Also, why can't you just look at the shopping list on the white board, DH? You're standing there writing the stuff you need on a paper and ask me what else we need and I ask if you wrote down XYZ and you say you didn't know we needed it and I say it's on the shopping board and you say you didn't look there and then I want to throw things. WE HAVE USED THAT AS A SHOPPING LIST FOR 9 YEARS!! HOW COME ALL OF A SUDDEN YOU DON'T KNOW HOW TO LOOK AT IT??

Yeahhhh...I feel you. This happened to me today but it wasn't on FB, it was in my living room with my mom and abortion rights.
At least now I (hopefully) think she realizes that women aren't all out there getting late-term abortions all willy nilly like she apparently thought.

I don't feel like saving for retirement anymore after reading about the climate change thred on CEP. In 27 years, I won't even be at retirement age. It's depressing, scary, and panic inducing.
@lemonlover, I know, it is depressing. With insult to injury that assholes are running around (Pence) promoting coal. Come on. I did see this segment the other day and it made me feel better to know that scientists are hard at work already.

This is the exact same topic. There's nothing like a woman with two perfect births and two healthy children, telling people how incredibly selfless she would be if she was faced with such a decision. "Even if they said I was going to die and the baby would only live three seconds, I still wouldn't abort! If you can't make that sacrifice for your child you shouldn't get pregnant."

Oh last night made me want to bang my head on the coffee table. Coal is a YUGE industry in Indiana, BELIEVE ME. It's tremendous. I grew up southern Indiana. Quite a few of my high school classmates work coal now. Also we have higher polution rate. And I believe Indiana sued the EPA over the clean air act. I don't know if I should laugh or cry for my home state. I don't know why people think clean energy won't equal more jobs.
I'm glad OTHER countries are thinking of the future. I mean, I had to teach my 32 yr old roommate about recycling and how we have recyling bins in our apartment complex. I can't believe in this day and age she thinks recycling is a myth that won't actually help anything.

Indiana is terrible.
We are basically the new Florida.
I can't even believe Pence is a VP candidate. It blows my mind. As if Trump isn't bad enough, he picked one of the dumbest politicians in the country as his running mate. Between reversing Daniels legislation regarding energy efficiency, denying climate change, and refusing to follow the Clean Power Plan, I think he would be Trump's go to guy when it comes to dismantling environmental regulations. Pence has been heavily funded by the energy industry anyways.
I'm having a crappy week here too. I haven't been on much since the past few days have been a blur. I threw my back out on Thursday, and have been hurting ever since. We also found out last week that our cat, Bella, has cancer. They think she has a good amount of time left, and she's not acting sick, but she's lost a ton of weight lately.
I've also been very busy with grad school and my second job, and my Lean In circle had our first ever drama, so I'm being pulled in a million different directions.
Also, no job news yet for either DH or I. He's still waiting on the place where he's had two interviews. That would require us to move, so I am anxiously anticipating the news so we know what the heck is going on in our lives. Of the three possible employers I've been talking to, one turned me down. The other two are still in the works, but one is close to DH's potential job and one is close to where we live now, so I really need his job to either pull through (or not) so I can refocus my job search.
just, hope your visits go well! It's so fun to have things to look forward to.
hamster, I was really glad that it was rainy when I stayed home with back pain on Friday. If I had to be stuck on the couch, at least it was the perfect weather for it!
@lemonlover and papiercherri, I feel your pain on Indiana. Michigan is becoming more and more of a red state and it angers me greatly. The policies our governor is enacting are infuriating!

My parents live near Ft. Wayne and I didn't talk to any of their friends/family this summer that think Pence is anything but trouble with a big fat T. Of course, why would anyone want to partner up with Trump...talk about selling your soul to the devil. Pence is gross but he was unfortunately smooth last night so the deplorables probably think he helps make their vile ticket more legit. Especially since THEY DON'T ACTUALLY LISTEN TO THE WORDS THAT COME OUT OF TRUMP OR PENCE's heinous pie holes.

I'm getting lasik next week. I'm nervous and excited at the same time. But I've had to wear my glasses for 3 weeks to make sure my eyeballs go back to normal.
My doc was all "You know, if you're going to get it, you should get it now", and then said something equivalent (but in a nicer way) to, "It's not like you're getting any younger". My contacts were bugging me a lot lately, and I was like, "You know what? LET'S DO THIS"
I've had glasses since I was 6 years old, contacts since I was 11. I'M SO READY.
nicechicken, Can you update us after you do it? I am terrified because you have to be awake. Otherwise, I would do it. I haven't been able to wear contacts in a year. I was caught in a dust storm and got a rash on the eyeball touching part of my eyelid. so anytime I where contacts, the skin sloughs off and fuzzes my eyesight.

@lemonlover, I also had this problem on the inside of my eyelids, if I wore my contacts too long, I would get little bumps on the inside of my lids, which would irritate my eye/contact. My H got it done (and he's super SUPER squeamish about eyes, thats why he got surgery because he couldn't get contacts in his eyes) and survived okay. But I will let you know! I know a couple people here have gotten it.
