If it’s not the guns, then it’s the people. There were almost 11,000 people killed with firearms in the US in 2010. More shocking is the nearly 20,000 suicides using firearms. Guns are part of our national character we are the land of Pioneers, and Cowboys. But sometimes men need someone to talk to and mental health services for men are scarce. I propose a penny a bullet excise tax on ammunition to pay for these services. While you might not know anyone that was killed with a firearm, I bet you know some that has taken their own life that way.
Don't forget our state house candidate who was just arrested for domestic violence.
I only just read a headline thus morning. He seems like a peach.
A lot of folks are commenting and wondering if he has PTSD or a similar condition. I guess he was in Iraq and/or Afghanistan a few times. But yeah the charge itself doesn't sound good.

The one i read said he choked his wife's son.
Yeah and I believe she was hit as well in the process of trying to get them apart.

Our local teabagger congressman is being challenged by a young hot-shot who was Biden's right hand person for years. I was really excited about the guy, but apparently he's losing big time in the polls. Our district was D before the teabagger was elected in 2010, and it's time to change back.
We had a guy running for Congress who made up these long wood signs and had someone driving around the state repositioning them every day. It was odd. I found an old article where he wasn't sure when he announced if he was running as an R or a D. Things you should know before announcing you are running.
He lost (shocker) to a woman who is going to be our first female and our first minority representative! I didn't vote for her but I'm still thrilled she won and the general is a foregone conclusion for most D's in my state. Deciding who to vote for in that election - other than the wood sign guy - was a tough decision. There were three very good candidates running for the office. The guy I backed posted a nice picture of the two of them a couple weeks back saying how much he supported her and that he was going to work for her GE campaign.
Oh and not to totally hijack, but this amuses me anyway. In District 56A, we have a Christensen v. Christiansen race. Both are men are under age 25 and one is an incumbent. I'm actually kind of excited to see how that race pans out.
The R candidate for OR governor said last week that educated women aren't susceptible to domestic/sexual violence. Then he issued an "I'm sorry you were offended" kind of apology. So that was gross.

We also have a district wherr both tje R and D candidates are Somali & Muslim.
The D is almost assured to win, and the R seems a bit nutty, but i think its really cool thay we're going to have a muslim representative no matter what.
OscarQ he describes himself as a working class, Libertarian, Democrat.
In Corker's last senate race, the D party disavowed the guy running against him. I think the D party left us for dead ages ago. We've been R since the Civil War and it hasn't changed despite the shifts in the rest of the south. It's odd.
On the one hand I can't really blame people for thinking Ds are totally bananas when this is our local D option.
I'm voting for the incumbant mayor. He's a Republican and I like him, he's done a good job. He will likely run for higher office someday and I'm cool with that. Better candidates!
