QOTD: if you drink beer, do you have a local-to-you favorite brewery? I'm going to the great American beer festival and would love suggestions from out of the area. Feel free to include any wineries or distilleries just for conversation if you aren't a beer drinker.
I'm reading Beautiful Ruins still by Jess Walter. Not going as quickly as I'd like. I like to try anything local, and being in CO, I have lots of options.
I've set aside Hamilton in favor of some library holds that came up. Currently reading A Court of Thorns and Roses - I'm about 1/4 into it and so far I like it.
I don't drink much beer anymore, but the two local (Rhode Island) brewers that DH enjoys are Revival Brewing and Trinity Brewhouse. He's mainly an IPA and stout drinker.
I'm reading Paws and Effect in book form and re-reading All Creatures Great and Small. While I'm happy to have the new release (Paws and Effect), I'm getting so much joy revisiting ACG&S ... it's melding in my mind with the TV show, which I loved ... It's such a good feeling.
QOTW: Really not much of a drinker. After a few scares in my 20s, I got obsessive about not drinking and driving. When I do drink, it's usually a rum and coke, which feels weird drinking alone at home (I live alone), so I don't drink at home much (exception: the time I came home from a trip and my front door was open - that deserved a large rum and coke). So, the result is I can't tell you the last time I had a drink.
I've put my books aside in order to learn my lines for these short plays I'm doing at the end of the month. They're Twilight Zone-esque shorts. I have four different parts, and two of the plays are just two person shows...yeah, not panicking at all...yet. :? I've just gotten the Amy Schumer book I had on loan, so I may have to squeeze that in somewhere, too, so I don't have to go back on the waiting list for it.
I can't drink thanks to a sucky prescription I have to take right now, but I never was a big fan of local stuff, TBH. I tried the Roanoke Railhouse once and it was horrible. Parkway Brewing is supposed to be good, though. We tend to buy Sam Adams, which is so very NOT local. ;-)

I'm listening to Reading Lolita in Tehran by Azar Nafisi for a book club. I'm reading Behold the Dreamers by Imbolo Mbue on my nook. I'm really liking this one.
QOTW: I'm a big fan of local breweries here in MA. I'm really liking the beers at Northampton Brewery and Abandoned Building Brewery. TreeHouse is right near me and it's blowing up all over the area. It's mostly IPA's which aren't really my thing but my husband gets it a lot.
Still working on Children of the Frost (I even made some progress last night), and I finished the second Machine of Death book and Wonder in the last week. If you haven't read Wonder, don't be put off that it's a children's book, it's amazing and very smartly written and I'd highly recommend it (I even gave it 5 stars, it's my only 5 star read this year).
QOTW: I don't drink beer, so I can't offer any suggestions there. My current cider obsession is Flatbed Pear Cider, which is from Oregon.
I'm finishing up an audiobook called The Jewel. It's a 2 star book. I just can't seem to wrap my brain around the premise. It seems like the author was trying to be different, but it just didn't work out. The details aren't thought out.
I just started In the Heart of the Sea last night, but barely stayed awake through the preface. The style seems like it will be fine, I just started it too late.
QOTD: It seems like we have a ton a breweries out here (New England) some are more commercial than others these days so I'm not sure which is common place (like Sam Adams) or more local, like Clown Shoes.
I'll recommend this one because the owner was SO nice. The brewery is called Down The Road and they're out of Everett, Ma. We wanted to do a tour around the area and these guys were on our map. They were only renovating the place and weren't actually open for business yet. They still invited us in, gave us a tour, broke out the beers and then invited us to come back the next day for a family event they were having. The beer was good too!
Others that we really like are Night Shift, From the Barrel, and 603. My next place to check out is Jack's Abbey
I am reading The Luckiest Girl Alive by Jessica Knoll. I'm about 3/4 of the way through the book. It's a little predictable and I don't like any of the characters but it is keeping my attention.
QOTW - I don't drink often and I don't drink beer. If I drink I usually pick a mixed drink.
I'm reading Drums of Autumn before beditme these days. It's not going very quickly because I keep falling asleep.
I have two favorite localish breweries: DuClaw Brewing Company (Baltimore) and Old Ox Brewery (Northern VA)
Random story- I have 2 cases of Sweet Baby Jesus in my basement. I love DuClaw and wish they distributed to Michigan! We tried to find some of it in Ohio, where they do distribute but there was none to be found. Apparently, enough people complained about the name of Sweet Baby Jesus that they pulled it from the shelves.
I just finished The Girl With All The Gifts. I did not know what it was about when I picked it up, thought about quitting because I thought it was going to be dumb and ended up liking it. Not sure what I am going to pick up next-I have a few library holds that will be available soon.
QOTW: Michigan has SO many awesome breweries. Favorites that distribute: Black Rocks, Atwater, Griffin Claw, Shorts, New Holland, Blake's Hard Cider. 2 favorite that don't distribute: Jaden James and Brooks Brewing

Interesting! Sweet Baby Jesus is my favorite too!
Luckily we can get a good number of Michigan beers in Virginia. Or, make my parents bring them with them when they visit. I grew up in west Michigan
I'm reading The Map of Bones by Francesca Haig. I'm having trouble focusing lately on any kind of realistic fiction. This is dystopian but still going slowly so far.
I'm not a beer drinker. Wine is good but I'm a pick-by-label kind of drinker.
I'm reading All The Light We Cannot See. I'm not very far into it but it's good so far.
QOTW: Leinenkugel is my versatile WI beer. There's pretty much always something I like from them available. New Glarus is another WI brewery that is probably lesser known. My favorite is Spotted Cow. And super local to me is Bull Falls Brewery. Their stout is really good and there's another one that I can't remember what it's called but it has Star in the name. Midnight star maybe.
Just started The Longest Ride (Nicholas Sparks) and finished War Brides (Helen Bryan, Dress Shop Dreams (Menna Van Praag), and The Things we Keep (Sally Hepworth).
Not a beer drinker, but my DH likes Pliny the Elder.
Read in the past week: Night by Elie Wiesel - non-fiction personal account of the Holocaust. 4 stars. I'd still recommend Rena's Promise if you are only going to read one Holocaust survivor memoir.
Seven Years by Dannika Dark - PNR. 2 stars.
Lord of Wicked Intentions by Lorraine Heath - historical romance. 3 stars. Not memorable, but not bad. Average.
Currently reading: Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand - non-fiction audiobook one man's survival in WWII
Touch of Iron by Timandra Whitecastle - fantasy, goodreads giveaway book I won that I finally picked up because of no electricity (thanks hurricane Matthew)
Empire of Storms by Sarah Maas - ya/fantasy book #5 in the Throne of Glass series. I've basically put this on hold.
Two other books too, but this is long enough as it is.
I started the audio book for Good Omens by Gaiman/Pratchett. I saw someone's comment about it being too busy, so we'll see how it goes. Listened to another chapter of The Time Traveler's Wife and still don't like it. Made it about 25% into Salem's Lot by Stephen King. It's my book club's selection for October.
QOTW: I don't drink, but H has a few local breweries that he likes:
Bastone is always good; he likes to bring home a growler of Dubbel Vision for special occasions. Ann Arbor Brewing is pretty well liked, though he just said their Oktoberfest wasn't great, just okay. Said it has an aftertaste that he couldn't identify and didn't like. Recently, he did like something named Dwarf. Griffin Claw and Royal Oak Brewery he drinks if we go there for dinner. Short's Brewing, Right Brain, and Dragonmead he usually buys in the store in stead of visiting. Black Lotus he drinks when we goes out for dinner alone, though from his comments the beer seems to be hit or miss sometimes. And he's not a fan of Jolly Pumpkin, at all.
