I have extremely plain Easy Spirit e360s that I got at dsw for less than $50. They're really padded and soft, but they don't breathe very well and I don't love them when it's hot out. They work for me on my feet teaching all day though.
Do they have to be dressy? Honestly, I think you're better off investing in a pair of danskos if you're on your feet all day. You're going to be hurting in flats with no support. I wore black dansko clogs with my suits when I worked in a restaurant. You're looking at $140, but they last ages and get more comfortable with time.
I'll third Sofft, Aerosoles and Life Stride and throw in Clarks/Privo. I have fond memories of Easy Spirits from years past.
Another thought is to go to a specialist store and have them measure your feet to make sure you're getting the right size. I'm an 8W but size up in mediums to an 8.5 or 9 which is actually problematic for my feet. If I stick to an 8W the arch is in the right place, the box is not too tight, and the shoe is the proper length so I'm not tripping. Also, for my less supportive shoes I purchased an insert (SuperFeet @ $50) that have saved my feet so much pain.

I`ve had Lifestride. I liked them the first two months, then they would kill my feet every day. I work on my feet everyday so I have to have really comfortable flats, I have yet to find a pair:/ Has anyone ever tried Tieks? I have heard of them, and I know they are expensive...but did you think they were worth the price?
