I've never been asked but my kids have received these types of shirts. I always assumed they were added into the field trip price (and frankly it seems easier for everyone involved for them to have one)
Nope. My kids school bought white tees for entire school for field day last year and had them tye dye them. Every class had 2 colors. My sons class was turquise and orange. It was great. This was 4th and 5th grade.

I always think it's cute when I see kids on a field trip with matching shirts. I can't imagine a parent being miffed about this. But I agree no actual names.

No. My girls got shirts in preschool that they had to wear when they had field trips.
In kindergarten last week they had an event at school where each class had to wear a specific color shirt that was provided by the school. I am very happy about this because now when they have to wear this color I can just throw this shirt on them.

My only caveat would be this: Is yours the type of school that makes parents show up with shittons of things like hand sanitizer, white erase markers, kleenex, etc.? If so, and you have true extra funds, I might be inclined to use those funds to stock up on those things for next year.
As someone who would have LOVED if the kids had been in matching shirts for a field trip I was a chaperone for last year, no, I would not be one little bit mad.

I'm going to guess it's a field trip allotment account, so she's supposed to use it for its intended purpose.

It bothers me that you have to even ask this and completely can imagine why you need to.
No, it would not bother me and I'd think you were awesome. However, I'd make sure there is no one who would audit this, in regards to mandatory rules on how you must spend any additional funds, and clear it with your principal first if need be.

::lurker:: You may want to consider buying an extra shirt or two just in case. Someone might forget their shirt on class picture day or a new student might join your class. (Says the woman who forgets everything and who moved her kid mid-year.)
One year DS's principal gave all the kids tshirts. This year the PTA is giving all the kids and faculty tshirts to celebrate the school's anniversary. I think it's pretty nice and gives him a perfect go to shirt for field trips and school spirit.

Agree with thinking it's a great idea for field trips, not so much for picture day. DS's second grade teacher tie dyed shirts for the whole class to wear for their field trip last year. It was an awesome idea.

I'd ask first.
Pajama Day is a common reward at my school. One of the classroom teachers keeps a stock of brand new PJs in case a kid forgets on PJ day and is upset about it.
My neighbor's daughter was one of those kids who forgot and was upset, and teacher gave her a set of PJs to wear on reward day. Neighbor flipped out on her. It was a mess.
