What are you reading and how do you like it? Challenges, goals, etc. going well? Anything awesome recently finished or up next?
QOTW: Tell us about your pets. Bonus point for pet pics. Super awesome bonus points for pets-with-books pics. dorothyinAus I miss your questions -- much more original than mine.
Reading The Improbability of Love for my bookclub and just started The Secret Keeper by Kate Morton (not that far into it).
I am really enjoying the Improbability of Love, its definitely different than what I usually read.
Original reading goal was 30, I then changed it to 40, then changed it again to 50. I am currently at 38.
2 dogs, a Belgian Malinois Shepherd and a Jack Russel/Corgi/whatever else mix. We rescued them both so not 100% sure. Our Shepherd is a big baby and has a lot of anxiety (gets easily spooked) but she is such a sweetheart and wants to give kisses to everyone. Our jack Russell mix is crazy. They are both about 6/7 years old but still act like puppies, so much energy.
I'm reading the Chernow Hamilton bio. It is good! I'm typically a fast reader, but this one is taking me a while. This is #35 of my goal of 35 for the year.
Attached is a pic of my two spoiled rotten fools. The one in front is our lab-pit mix we got the summer after we got married, so we've had him 5.5 years. He'll be 7 next month. The black lab wandered into our front yard last summer. No collar, no chip. We hung signs and hunted for his owners (he was in good shape when we found him, he had not been out long)....no luck, so he's ours!
I've also been plowing my way through Chernow's Hamilton, but I set it aside when a bunch of library holds came up all at once.
I'm currently completely engrossed in the Girl in the Spider's Web. I forgot how much I liked this series and these characters. New author aside, the book is great so far. It's smart and it completely holds my attention, which was something that I really liked about the other books. It was a long time ago that I read the other three books, so it's hard to compare the writing, but I definitely like this one.
I have no pets anymore. We've been promising DD that we'd take her to get a new fish since hers died a couple of weeks ago, but it hasn't happened yet. Maybe this weekend.
I am reading The Perfume Collector. It has been enjoyable. I expect to finish this weekend and have no idea what I will turn to next! This is book 27 of my goal for 30 this year. Right on track and I may exceed the goal.
QOTW: We have fish, not too exciting, but they expect the level of care I am prepared to offer!
I'm reading An Ember in the Ashes. It's not great but it's a fun quick read. I should finish this weekend.
No pets. I got a dog (poodle/terrier mix) for my 14th birthday and she was the best dog ever. I still miss her. DH and DD are both super allergic to animals though so we will never have another pet.
I'm continuing with the James Herriot books, on to All things Wise and Wonderful. This is the third book and I may put it aside for a bit to read something else, just to mix it up a bit. But I'm enjoying them and starting to get to the point where I may have stopped reading years ago, so some of the content feels new to me.
QOTW - I have two very spoiled kitties. Both are Siamese/Siamese mix, so they have blue eyes and are very vocal. Here are my darlings, assisting me with my computer work:
Read this past week: Empire of Storms by Sarah Maas (#5 Throne of Glass series) - YA fantasy, 4 stars; started out slooow but got much better Releasing Rage by Cynthia Sax - romance sci-fi, 3 stars; first book I ever read about cyborgs, this is more erotica than anything and needs a major trigger warning Shadowed Blade by J.C. Daniels (#5 Colbana series) - PNR, 2 stars; worst book of the series. Sad. The Goal by Elle Kennedy (hockey series #4) - romance, 1 star; TERRIBLE! Which is sad because I generally liked the 3 previous books in this series
Currently reading The Silkworm by JK Rowling (#2 Cormoran Strike series) - this murder mystery is kind of disgusting/disturbing so far Devil in Winter by Lisa Kleypas (#3 Wallflowers series) - loving this so far!
QOTW - not the best photo, but the most recent one of my cat, Casey (my son loves him, the feeling is not mutual haha)
Wallflower - my cat is a Siamese mix too with blue eyes and VERY vocal

Hoping to finish Neil Patrick Harris "Choose your own Autobiography" this weekend. It's really funny! Slightly behind on a lofty goal of 24 for the year. This should be book 19 if I ever finish.
I have 2 cats. Having trouble uploading photos, I have a great one of my female cat with the book my friend published.
I am reading The Light Between Oceans. I am really enjoying it. I have passed my reading goal for this year, but I set my goal low since I knew we would be busy with moving. I set my goal at 30 and I am at 37.
We no longer have a pet. I wish we did because the house is too quiet but our current landlord will not allow any pets.

I just finished Amy Schumer's bio The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo. It was pretty good. I haven't started anything else because I HAVE to learn my lines cold and I don't need any distractions. I don't want to eff up the scene in front of an audience. We've only had two weeks to get these short plays fully staged, and it's been absolutely crazy.
We have three cats. Tommy (gray & white) is 18, Tessa (black and white) is 12, and Rahab (striped) is 11. The first two are mine and Rahab is DH's. They coexist but don't really like each other much. Tessa is beyond spoiled but Tommy is my little old man. I've had him since he was tiny.
Currently still reading 'Salem's Lot (supposed to be finished tonight for book club, oops). I think our next book is Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie. H says he owns the ebook, so I might already have access to it on my kindle.
Almost done listening to Good Omens. Looking forward to choosing something different the next time I visit the library.
Went a little crazy reading Murder of Crows, Vision in Silver, and nearly all of Marked in Flesh by Anne Bishop. Already sad the final book isn't out yet. But I'm feeling vindicated about disliking serials. Some people love delving into a world, getting to know the characters, and having that continue through multiple books. But really, the first is usually the best and waiting for new releases sucks. I very much prefer standalone books.
Fairy tales do not tell children the dragons exist. Children already know that dragons exist. Fairy tales tell children the dragons can be killed. - G. K. Chesterton
I'm reading Behild the Dreamers by Imbolo Mbue. Good so far, but it's going to be depressing, I think. These are my boys. Charlie the dog (plus his wrapping paper hat) is 14 and Atticus (with book! I came home one day and found him like that with a book DD had left open) is 11.
I finished reading A Court of Mist and Fury. I loved it! I really liked it better than the first book and I had enjoyed that one.
I'm two books past my original goal of reading 80 books this year.
I have Throne of Glass up next to read as well as two non-fiction books: one on Kim Philby, double agent at MI6 during the Cold War. He breached John le Carre's cover and caused him to retire from service. The other is about black migration to the north and Midwest.
QOTW: We have three cats: Max (13), Kinky (16), and Jeff (7 months old.) Max and Kinky are great cuddle buddies when I read. Jeff, however, doesn't let me read. He prefers to eat my books. LOL!
Jeff (his full name is Jeffrey Herbert Walker Carson. LOL!)
I'm still stuck on Ines of My Soul for book club, and have books piling up behind it, which annoys me I can't read it faster, it's just not captivating me.
We have a dog named Harvey, he wears a tuxedo every day. He's 9.5 and a super sweetheart that is great with all the kids that come over, though he likes to give kisses. He used to be super excitable and was getting more anxious during thunderstorms and destroying doors and trim, so now he's on anti anxiety meds and is a bit better but still hates storms and prefers to go everywhere with us instead (especially during storms).
I just finished Letters from Skye, and I'm reading House of Mirth now. I took that book character quiz that was posted and it said House of Mirth was the saddest book ever written and I downloaded it immediately - lol. It was written in 1905 and she m enjoying the first-hand look at life of the rich and shiftless in New York. It hasn't gotten sad yet, but it's coming.
QOTD: we have two doggies today. I'm not sure how much longer our older guy will be with us....
I'm reading Masks by Fumiko Enchi. It's one of those books that has a very surprising plot, yet somehow it doesn't seem illfitting or thrown together at the last second. The novel itself is short, but it really doesn't need to be any longer than it is. I'm throughly enjoying it.
As far as pets, I just have two birds. One is a green cheek conure named Peep, the other is an elderly cockatiel named Peters. The pic is of my conure.
I just finished Originals: How Nonconformists Change the World by Adam Grant. It was okay, but nothing earth-shattering and new.
I'm also reading In Such Good Company: Eleven Years of Laughter, Mayhem and Fun in the Sandbox by Carol Burnett. I'm only about 10% in, but so far it's an interesting and funny read.
We have one old cat that was DH's before we met. When she dies, we won't have another pet
I liked this one more than I thought I would. I just read it recently and it was weird to see the movie previews halfway through reading it.
