At what age to girls start shaving their legs these days? I remember I had to actually ask my Mom if I could at the tail end of 6th grade. I felt like I was last girl on earth to do it at the time.
When she asks or when you notice hair. Could be as young as 8, from what I've read here. Don't let go too long though...I didn't start until 13, and I *really* should have started earlier (got teased for it).
No kids but depends on the kid. I had/still have very light hair so I didn't start until 5th grade (I think?) I got in trouble for starting so early, but over time my mom let it go.
DD1 first shaved the summer before 6th grade (she was 11) but even now she's a halfhearted shaver (she just turned 14). She doesn't care what people think if she has hairy legs. She only shaved a few times over the whole summer. Now that it's cooler and she can wear pants I don't think she's shaving her legs at all.
DD2 is in 5th grade. I told her she could start shaving if she wants to. She's in competitive acrobatic gymnastics and has partners to think about so I told her that if she starts shaving she'll probably need to keep up with it and I don't think she's ready for that commitment yet, lol.
My oldest started in 6th grade. My middle who is now in 6th (almost 12) hasn't asked yet, but if she does I'll let her. I think middle school is about the average age.
My oldest is 12 & started shaving her armpits probably a year or more ago. I told her then she could shave her legs when she wanted to. She still hasn't and seems not to care at all. She's got blonde body hair. I think some of her darker haired friends have but it doesn't seem to be a big deal yet (& everyone at her school wears skirts daily as a uniform).

DD is 8, will be 9 in a month.
I've noticed her leg hairs have started to get darker and more of them. I will not protest when she asks to start shaving. I was in 6th grade had hairy arm pits and got made fun of when we changed for gym class so I don't want her to have to deal with that.
I think I asked this question before and got the same answers as above. I started shaving when I was 11, and in 6th grade. DD1 is almost 10. She's mentioned it once and hasn't since then. DD2 is 7, and I don't think that thought has ever crossed her mind.

My oldest brought it up a few times after she had her casts removed (summer before 2nd grade) - her hair grew thick and dark on her legs from 6 weeks of casting. We brushed it aside at the time because I felt like that was maybe a little too young and the doctor told us the hair would lighten/rub off after a few weeks with no casts.
She hasn't mentioned it since - but I'm ready now with razors and/or Veet if she wants to give that a shot first. (She's in 4th grade now and I don't want it to be something that bothers her) I've had the stuff for about 6 months but she hasn't mentioned it.......I'll probably leave it up to her until the spring/summer when she starts wearing shorts/skirts again.
I don't have a kid, but I was hanging out with my niece last week and she asked why she has hair on her legs and I don't and how can she not have hair.

No kids, I was allowed when I started my period, so.. 9/10. I was going in to fifth grade. By sixth grade I needed to shave regularly and wore a D cup, getting made fun of for stuffing my bra. Glad I shaved early so they didn't add that on.
There was a girl I graduated with that wasn't allowed to shave until 11th grade. She had light blonde hair but a ton of it, people made fun of her.

She's 4.
I think this is a very normal question, especially for that age. They just start noticing their bodies and how they are different from others. DS (he's 4) asked me the other day what his nipples were for and when would his look like mine.

When they ask to and can safely do it on their own.
DD1 is 13 and doesn't shave her legs yet. She has very light, blond leg hair and it doesn't bother her. She began shaving her armpits in 6th grade. She's on swim team and spends a lot of time in a swim suit in a co-ed group. She didn't like being the only girl in the older group that didn't shave her armpits. I'm pretty sure she only does it like once a week though.

I started in 5th grade. I shaved and went to school the next day. It was kind of a good thing as I developed 5th Disease on my thighs and was sent home by the school nurse. If I didn't wear shorts I wouldn't have even know and would have spread it everyone!
GD2 is in fifth grade and started this year. She could have started last year and been fine with it. She's 10, has always had heavy hair and already pubescent, so she's on the more advanced scale. GD1 is in seventh and started this year, primarily because GD2 started, not because she needed to.

My DD started at 10. She did have pretty hairy legs by then, but it was white blonde and not that noticeable, but it was bothering her. I bought her a razor and shaving cream and showed her how to hold the razor. She still cut her leg pretty good the first time but has gotten better.

I agree it should be when they can do it safely on their own. I remember shaving my legs in 5th grade. I had older sisters, and was one of the first among my friends to start shaving. I also vividly remember my sister getting really awful razor cuts on her legs from shaving. My daughter is 8, and has fairly dark hair on her legs. She has not asked about shaving yet and I'm really hopeful she doesn't for a couple more years. I have a difficult time seeing her being careful enough to shave on her own.

My niece just turned 10 and has needed to for a while. She asked ExSIL and she told her she can when the weather starts to get warm again. DD will be 8 soon and I haven't noticed any need to, but I did buy her deodorant last week.
