Hey ML, it's your turn to hear me brag--and this is a total AW post, you've been warned.
I just published my first novel! It's historical fiction with a murder mystery.
Here's the pitch: The Lion and the Fox is set in the cutthroat world of Renaissance Florence. When a dead Medici shows up in a male brothel, the powerful family turns to political exile Niccolo Machiavelli to find the murderer. But will Machiavelli be outfoxed? It has spoiled rich boys, prostitutes (male and female!), a mysterious woman, fights, murders, mystery, politics––tons of fun stuff!
If you're interested, please check it out! I would really love to get more readers and reviews.
Oh, and not to make you guys jealous, but when I posted on CEP yesterday, they bought a lot of copies, enough to rocket the novel into the top-10 for Historical Italian Fiction. I'm not saying CEP is better than ML or anything, but wow that was impressive . . .
Wow, that's a great accomplishment! Congratulations!
How long did it take you to write?
Uh, eight years? I started it for National Novel Writing Month in 2008. But I didn't touch it at all between 2008-2016. This summer I was on maternity leave, and really missing intellectual engagement, so I picked it back up and did some major revisions and editing, including adding 30k words. I also had my sister, who's a full-time indie author (historical romance--Emma Prince), help with editing. So it was like a part-time job for the last few months.
Thanks, guys! I'm already working on the next book I plan to publish, where a young girl runs away from an arranged marriage to attend the University of Padua disguised as a boy. It's really fun!
