i have no idea what is causing all these infections. i have literally had a uti every month since june :-(
i'm taking cranberry pills, sprinting to the bathroom after sex, wiping with extreme precaution and still!
heeeeeelp meeeee.
and the real kicker is that they always come at juuuust over the 30 day window in which the doctors office would just call in another prescription for me. so i get to dish out $81/month since i no longer have health insurance. seriously. i was last in their office 8/7. booooo.

The infection is probably not completely clearing completely, I've had this happen and I had an infection non stop for six months. Your bladder lining is also pretty irritated at this point and more susceptible to infection.
I ended up taking a three month tapering course of antibiotics. I now take one cephalon after sex and I haven't had one since.
in june, the urine sample came back positive for a uti.
in july, i took AZO and the dr. said it funked up their urine test and sent it away for lab verification. it came back positive.
in august, i took AZO again and it blew the test and they didn't send to a lab, but gave me antibiotics and this time a pain pill for bladder spasms.
now i'm on AZO again (because i really can't make it without it). but today i'm going to ask the doctor what we can do for a long-term treatment. the 10-day supply of antibiotics is obviously not cutting it.
and i know this is going to sound crazy, but could i be more susceptible to uti's with a specific person? 'cause bf and i started having sex in may and i've been on antibiotics since. it's probably just coincidental, right?
It sounds like the infection isn't completely gone, it's just going asymptomatic. You should ask your doctor if you can either get on a longer-term antibiotic course, or do the "take a pill after sex" thing (I did that too a few years ago), and either way you should see if you can schedule a follow-up appointment for them to test your urine to make sure the infection is gone.
Also, has it been the same type of antibiotic each time? It's possible that your infection is resistant to that type, so you should also ask about taking a different antibiotic.

What is AZO? I know when I had an UTI I had 2 prescriptions: one to make me stop feeling like I was pissing fire, and the other was an antibiotic. Is there an alternative to the AZO? Is that what it's doing?

different antibiotics. at least two, maybe three, different types. also, for varying lengths of time.
i'm going to ask today about a pill after sex and a tapering course of antibiotics. thanks guys!
I wonder about the BC b/c I got them more often one year when I switched, too. I don't know if this is logical though.
I also started getting them more when we did away with condoms. I think your body needs to get used to not having that barrier, you know? Peens are germy too. I had the same deal w months of getting one and I agree, it's probably not clearing it up all the way.
Ask for a new antibiotic, too. I've had luck w Msomething.....it always makes me nauseous but it gets rid of it every time. I don't know what AZO is. Never mind

I completely know the hell of recurring utis. I had a very similar situation in 2008. After several rounds of antibiotics, the dr put me on a strong one for 14 days and that got me over the hump. Like pp, Dr said my bladder lining was inflamed and I was never truly getting ahead of the infection.
I also got an Rx for an "after sex"antibiotic. I took one antibiotic pill (teeny tiny) as needed after sex. It made a world of difference. I did that for a year, stopping when we started ttc. I haven't had any problems since, even during pregnancy when you are supposedly more likely to get them.
Hang in there. UTIs suck and can really make you feel terrible. I used to think they were no biggie until that runs of one after another. I had to stay home from work one day I was so sick, and I was not a stay home sick person at all.
