We are strongly considering the name Maisie as a nn for Margaret if this baby is a girl. Maisie was my great-grandmother's name and by all accounts she was quite the live wire and very fun to be around. I'm just a little concerned that Maisie seems to "cute" because I want it to be a name she can grow with. Our hope is that by giving her the full name Margaret, she would have some options, but I still waffle. We do like older names and DD is Clara, for context.
I think as long as you love both names equally (because people might call her either one), do it. It's adorable, and having the fuller/more traditional name will give her options.
Popping in as Margaret parent-I tried really hard to convince DH to use Maisie but he hates all nicknames, so she's Margaret. But I love Maisie and the best part of Margaret is there is so many nicknames, she has a lot of options. (DH actually regrets not letting me use a nickname because she has become either Margs or Blargs)

Aww, I love Maisie! It's totally on my list, but my H will not go for it. I had similar concerns about it -- but I think once the name is the name, it naturally grows with the person because that's who they are. So, if you love it, use it (and I'll be jealous).
Maisie as a name on its own might be in too cute territory, but as a nickname is fine. She can always reinvent herself in high school/college m/whenever as Margaret or some other spin off.
