Need dressy casual outfit help

We are going to a nicer American casual restaurant (think- Stone Creek, Firebirds, J. Alexander's for reference) for a friend's 40th birthday.

I am totally clueless what to wear. Maybe a fun dress? Nothing too dressy but would like something dressier than dark skinny jeans.

What about a black jumpsuit with metallic pumps? I think you could get a lot of mileage with those pieces (together or separately) over the holiday season.
