When my niece was that age I got her a nail art kit and she had a lot of fun with it.

it IS an awkward age. I can only really tell you what people (including us) are getting for her:

-instant camera
-alex and ani bracelet with a couple charms
-bath and body works "spa" kit that we are putting together
-books
-board game (family feud)
-shirt that says #shiplap since she loves Fixer Upper

other than that, it's gift cards to everything since she (despite our best efforts) loves to shop. Michael's, Home Goods, Hollister, Aeropostale, etc. are some options.
