Unfort not Kilimanjaro (not yet at least)! But my friends are going in late February so they are in the same phase as you are. I have done all those parks and then the classic Zanzibar trip at the end. You are going to have such an amazing time. Beautiful country, beyond wonderful people, and great food!
we really wanted to add Zanibar but that is where YOLO got a reality check of time and money! we have a day in Arusha on either end and are trying to figure out the flight options. (we are coming from east coast). right now it looks like KLM to amsterdam, amsterdam to Arusha. There is a Dubai option via Emirates from the layover is not that long.
I've done both these flights. You'll have to go through security again in Duabi. You might not have to in AMS. I prefer KLM between the two because the layover is longer and it's more direct.
That being said the KLM flight is actually Amsterdam-Kilimanjaro-Dar Es salaam-Amsterdam. You have to stop in Dar on the way back anyway. I'm not sure what the cost would be to get off the plane and reboard for the last leg a day or two later but Zanzibar is a ferry ride or 20 minute flight from Dar. You can see it in a day. <-- just throwing that out there because logistics in East Africa are not really advertised.
Cicero, great intel!!! i may ping you later on this.
Please do, especially If you do end up laying over in Dar for a day or two. There are two specific ways you could make a quick trip to Zanzibar to work based upon flight times and the city's traffic patterns, neither of which really require a travel agent-just someone to tell you what is realistic and what is not.
Really not much for 2017! Or, I should say, it's all concentrated in 2017 and not spread out over several trips.
New Caledonia for 5 days in April. I've only heard of this place in the past few years. It's half way between Australia and Fiji. It's a French territory and it's pretty much a slice of France in the South Pacific. French wine and cheese here I come!
I'm getting married in the Florida Keys in November, so will spend a few days in Key West. Would also like to go to Cuba before spending lots of time hanging with family nowhere interesting. Will take at least a month off work, though. Woot!
We're definitely going to Malta for a week in May. We'll visit the three populated islands, staying part of the time in Gozo for more of an agriturismo vibe. We've booked a hotel in Sliema part of the time for a denser, city experience. We're also renting a car to cover a lot of ground. I really want to see a lot. Really looking forward to it. I have a couple of guidebooks that I plan to work my way through for walking and driving tours as well as random ideas when we've tackled the big sites.
Other than that, we've talked about getting away in a few weeks to somewhere but we haven't deeply planned it. We've also been invited to a family reunion at some sort of lake and campground in the Midwest, so I plan to go to that.
Any other ideas will be considered later on. Malta is the big one.
-Savannah,Tybee Island,St Simons Island -New Orleans -sister Cruise to Cuba and Bahamas[abr]-visit parents and Disney (spring break) -Oak Bluffs in August
-Deciding between Portland or Lake Tahoe for my birthday (end of March) -Montana this summer to hike up to Grinnell Glacier -Puerto Rico to visit my family (most likely in September) -Lapland (Finland) end of December into January to try and see the Northern Lights
I'm heading to Chicago in a couple weeks, then London for a weekend tour. For spring break we are spending three nights in Reims France to see champagne country. June we are going to Lake Como for 5 nights. July I'm having a baby so it will taper off after that. We live near Frankfurt so European travel is fairly easy right now.
May - Maui Aug/Sept - Cook Islands (Aitutaki and Rarotonga) Dec/Jan '18 - Costa Rica, maybe? Somewhere Alaska airlines flies so we can use a companion ticket
