We are home from a few days at my parents and I'm so glad. It was so cold there and they only use wood stoves and space heaters. Coming home to a warm house and not being freezing at bed time was so nice.
Plus things with my stepdad were really tense and rough with him and DS. I know he's hurting and not handling it well, but being a jerk and mean to my 4 year old isn't okay. He's just a little kid, cut him some slack. Ugh. It was so hard and I'm sad how glad I was to leave. Sigh.
I played hookey from work today. I didn't quite get enough done, but I'm feeling a bit more ready for Christmas. The next two weeks will be busy at work, so it was today or not all.
During my day off, I had to sift through the trash to find an Amazon delivery. It had $125 worth of gift cards in it. I can't even be mad at DH. Things have been so hectic, it might have been me. Or him. Or a kid. Or who knows who else that could have thrown it away. It wasn't pleasant, but I found it!

I'm trying to get into the holiday spirit, but I'm so overwhelmed between work and home, it's hard. I also made the mistake of reading the news today What is happening to the world...it's getting scary.

This is where I am. Typically my work cube is decorated to the nines with tons of little Christmas trees, snowflakes, etc. This year I put up nothing. Our tree is up and decorated and we have a wreath on the door, but that's it. No lights or interior decorations made it up this year.
And it's been too damn cold to do anything like zoo lights. I just feel like this season has raced by and I have been too blah to take advantage of it. Fortunately we saw Santa at Disney World, so at least we accomplished that. We're going to try to compensate this weekend with lots of holiday activities. Dinner with Santa and driving to see Christmas lights on Friday and visiting a senior center and bringing cookies on Saturday, and then all the Christmas festivities with family.
