To answer the actual question, I prefer towels because they hang so much more nicely on a rack than sheets. Sheets end up looking sloppy and hang too close to the floor.
I just use a regular towel, but I shower in the master bath and get dressed in my room. If the kids barge into my room and see my naked ass, well...oh well.
I've heard of bath sheets but have personally found the towels I have to be plenty large for us. But I also dry off quickly, then use the same towel to wrap my hair in, and put on a robe, so I'm not really wearing the towel on my body.
Thank you all for humoring me :-) I know I'm long waisted so that is probably part of the problem :-) I just wish bath sheets were more readily offered.
The last time I upgraded our towels, I went with a nice color for all 'regular' towels and hand towels, and plush white towels for large bath towels. It's spa-like and I love the combination. It makes it really easy to have the large plush towels for guests and the master bathrroom, and I can bleach them for extra cleanliness.
I don't really have this problem, given that I am 5' tall. Bath sheets are unwieldy and huge. Plus, you can't wrap your hair in them really. Regardless, our bathroom is attached to the bedroom. I usually wrap my hair up after drying off and go into the bedroom naked. I'm not concerned about anyone seeing me naked.
I have never heard of a bath sheet. I feel bad enough about myself when I grab a towel too small and it doesn't wrap around. If I had to use something called a sheet, my self esteem would plummet, what's next a bath tarp? If I have guests, I dry off and get dressed in the bathroom.
But isn't it more comfortable to have a towel that is actually big enough? Even when I lived alone I preferred a bath sheet.
If I could buy one that would fit down to my knees like a kid's hooded bath towel does, I would.
I think it is way more comfortable! Growing up, we didn't have matching sets of towels, we all basically used enormous beach towels. My parents still use beach towels/bath sheets rather than regular bath towels.
That said, DH and I don't own a single bath sheet. DH pointed out that our towel racks hang at a height where, if I were to use a towel that is any longer, it would pretty much dangle into the trash can that sits underneath. (It's a tiny toilet/bath/shower combo space, there is absolutely nowhere else to put a trash can except right where it is.) That grossed me out so much that I can't help but think of it every time I consider buying bath sheets.
I guess I could hang it on the hook where my robe hangs, since I hardly ever use my robe. But I don't walk around in a towel enough that it bothers me --I basically dry off with my towel, hang it back up, and walk around naked. DH wraps his around his waist, so his is super long anyway and doesn't show ass. So they work, they're just not as cozy as bath sheets.
I really need to replace 90% of towels and I've considered adding a few bath sheets, but they're also more expensive than bath towels. Between that and the drooping-towel complex that DH gave me, I just haven't pulled the trigger since I don't *need* them.
My towel, wrapped around me and tucked (under armpits) is more than sufficient to cover my bum. What kinda tiny ass towels are you guys using.
I learned recently that even regular bath towels come in different lengths depending on the brand. Most of our towels I can wear tucked around my body and be fine but we have some from Restoration Hardware that my ass hangs out in.
It's probably for the same reason we have a 6x9 rug in our living room instead of the 8x10 that would look better. I don't like paying for the extra square footage when the smaller one will do.
