The Department of Justice Inspector General will review broad allegations of misconduct involving the FBI’s investigation of Hillary Clinton’s email practices and the bureau’s controversial decision shortly before the election to announce the probe had resumed, the Inspector General announced Thursday.
The probe will be wide ranging — encompassing the FBI’s various public statements on the matter, whether its deputy director should have been recused and whether Department of Justice or FBI employees leaked non-public information, according to a news release from Inspector General Michael E. Horowitz.

Sooo we're just going to speculate as they basically prove that James Comey's actions caused HRC to lose..? The inspector general might/ will probably fire or at least demote James Comey, yeah..? WHAT ABOUT OUR PRESIDENT_ELECT?!? WHATCHA GONNA DO TO FIX THAT, HUH?!?!

How much you wanna bet that he's going to get a presidential pardon.
I'm glad it's being done but have no expectations that Comey will suffer any consequences.
Will the DOJ continue this investigation after inauguration? Are they independent of 45's directions? I can't imagine he'd want that investigation to continue.

Yeah, I am not remotely hopeful about any of this. If anything is going to be done, wide-ranging better mean it can still be complete in (*checks calendar*) four days or so.
Well, according to the NYT piece, there are parts of the "wide-ranging" investigation that will appeal to the incoming administration:
But the inspector general, Michael Horowitz, said he would also be examining other issues, including whether the deputy director of the F.B.I., whose wife ran as a Democrat for the Virginia State Senate, should have recused himself from any involvement in the Clinton email investigation. Another issue is whether a top Justice Department official gave information to the Clinton campaign.

I was just watching CNN & they said there's no way to expect a thorough investigation to be completed in a week, which is why they placed the Inspector General in charge. He's "non-partisan" & shouldn't be affected by Presidential or Congressional make-up changes. (The non-partisan is in quotes, as it was pointed out that Comey ((that MutherF'er)) was also SUPPOSED to act in a professional, non-partisan manner, grrrrr!)

IG's are appointed by the president. At least the vast majority of them are.
ETA in my short time to research it seems the Justice Dept IG is not appointed but is confirmed by the senate.

Hmmm, sorry, I was unaware, as CNN was discussing how there's no way he could do it in a week, so it was definitely going to be a continued effort. Then I wrote some emails/ did some work/ assuming we were safe. Shiiiit. Sorry guys.

I edited. I think you're good. MOST are appointed but based on 3 minutes of research, I don't think the Justice dept IG is appointed.

So, where in all of this does the concept of "checks and balances" come into play? I feel like everything I see going on is dismantling our checks and balances.
