We are toying with a trip to NYC in early June, and I have a few questions. My kids are 7 and 10, and we'd be interested in seeing a show, eating yummy food, and visiting the Museum of Natural History, Central Park, Statue of Liberty, other touristy places. Neither H nor I have been before.
1. Is early June miserable weather-wise? We live in the tropics, so we're used to warm weather. 2. What neighborhoods would be good to stay in? We are considering a VRBO rental and wouldn't need to be right in the thick of things as long as we're close to transit.
June's nice and public schools are still in session so things shouldn't be to crowded.
Staying in Manhattan will make the things you want to do easier but something like Park Slope or Long Island City (which is in Queens) or maybe even Astoria might be interesting and be more neighborhood-ish. You could also stay in NJ if you find something on the path train. Note that most short term apartment rentals in NYC aren't legal. There is a law on the books that an apartment can't be rented for less than 30 days.
BTW I strongly suggest the tenement museum and I think your kids are the perfect ages. You could also do one of the Watson Adventures. I liked the Central park one for adults I'm not sure if they have a family version.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
