Thata where ours is. We have a shower stall downstairs that we dodnt use so stuck it in there. I keep a curtain up and slightly opened for Milo to get in and out. Helps contain litter. There is still some but I sweep and mop regularly.
We did this in our 1/2 bath - it was in a corner and we swept the floor and scooped the box pretty much daily.
When we only had 1 bathroom, we put the litter box in the hall closet. We removed the latching mechanism from the doorknob and my cats quickly figured out how to pull the door open. The door would only be open a couple of inches, so it wasn't a nuisance at all. Much better than litter on your feet after a shower. (ick)
We did at our old apt. We used one of those litter boxes with the hole in the top so it helped prevent litter being kicked out. Also used a dust buster to sweep up the little bit of litter from their feet.
LOL I'd like to see my cat try to use one of those. The same cat that woke me up crying at 1am because she was next to our bed and had gotten herself caught in one of our decorative pillows. She frequently falls down the bottom step. Most uncoordinated cat I've ever seen.

I had to do this at my first apartment out of college. I got one of the hooded boxes. It helps with both smell and keeping litter in. Not ideal by any means, but no real alternatives.
My sister did it successfully (by cleaning & scooping daily) in her & her H's apt. And it's probably in their bathroom in their current apt as well although I haven't asked.
H and I put ours in a corner of our bedroom when we lived in a small apt. Both subsequent moves it's been in the laundry room.

I've done this but would prefer not to do it again. It might work better if you used a non-clay litter. My mom has an automatic litter box that uses blue pearls instead of standard cat litter. It seems to work well for her and might be better suited for that space.

We have ours in the laundry room and that's annoying enough. I couldn't imagine it in a bathroom. But if that's the only place you can have it... get one of those big litter grabbing mats and clean up a lot.

Our old place was REALLY REALLY small, not even room in the bathroom....and no closets except for 2 in the bedroom. We had to keep it in one of our closets but bought the Littermaid automatic litter box. I highly recommend getting automatic. I believe you can get covers for them too.
I feel like I need to note it was one of those long closets with the sliding doors...and we didn't really need to use the side the litter was on. I guess that's the plus side of my preference to shove everything in dresser drawers. We've since moved so our closet is litter free
I did it for years, and it was no big deal. Big mat under the box, scooped daily, kept a small broom and dust pan under the bathroom sink. It made scooping easy, right next to the toilet and bathroom garbage can.
When we lived in an apartment with very tight space we got a cheap kitchen cabinet for the cat box. We took off one door to make it easier for the cats to get in but you could have used a cat door for that as well. Inside we also had one of those mats that hold the litter so it doesn't track. You can also get the ones where the hole is on the top so there is far less tracking.

The only place for our litter box is our master bath. It's not ideal, but it works. Same as other posters-we have a box with a lid and a mat underneath to catch most of the litter that's tracked out. I scoop every other day and keep a little broom and dustpan under my sink to sweep up extra litter.
Litter box location is such a pain in the ass. My 2 previous apartments had one teeny, tiny bathroom. In one, I had to put it in the living room corner and in the other I put it in the hallway between living and dining areas. In both scenarios, tracking was pretty bad. I had to get rid of my area rug because I couldn't deal with the damn litter in it. I wouldn't want to put it in a frequently used bathroom because no matter how much you sweep and vacuum, and have a mat or covered box, there will be litter. Now I have laundry room and it's in there, which works great.
We have one in our bathroom, I have a litter mat under it to catch all her excess litter so we rarely have problems with the floor being gross.
I am confused as heck by these responses lol. My parents have had cats my entire life and the box has always been in the bathroom (and another hidden in the formal living room behind a couch). I would *much* prefer that to almost all other set-ups. The bathroom is big enough that the area by the litter box never gets wet (but it's not a huge bathroom by any means). They have a hooded litter box and a litter mat and there is pretty much never litter on the floor. The only time I can think of that there has been was when they had two males and the alpha got pissy about something and purposefully kicked up a mess.

We had it in our old apartment. I had them in the corner completely opposite of the shower so no chance for feet issues. I kept up with sweeping the litter and scooped 2x a day. I also regularly steam mopped the floor in there. It worked fine for us.
