An honest but maybe embarrassing question from a non-US person: #45 claims that illegal (I understand people without papers) residents have voted. Is that even possible? If you have no papers, how could you vote?
Or doesn't he understand the voting process?
In most states, you don't have to present an ID to vote. You do have to be registered to vote. So you walk into your polling place, give your name, they check that you haven't already been marked as voting at another location, and you get your ballot. I suppose, if someone really wanted to, they could go through death records and find people who they think are registered, but dead, then give those names. One could also potentially use a fake ID, but that presents other challenges if the information is stolen and that ID is already registered where you live. Or something along those lines. In short, it's possible, but highly unlikely that large volumes of people would do this. Far more effort than it's worth, in my opinion.
ETA: I would also expect one might need to give other identifying information, like an address, which further complicates someone successfully pulling this off.
I live in Colorado and have done mail in ballots the last few years, so I don't recall exactly what they ask at a polling location to confirm identity.
Y'all I don't know anything about this woman other than what's in her bio. Read her first tweet though & then the second one. Stupid much? Go tweet her.
Guys, it was stupid when it was an investigation that could harm Trump!!! Now that he is our President Dictator, it is OK to look into voting fraud! He has the means to make it look like it happened.
Under current law, I don't believe being registered in 2 states is illegal unless you vote in both.
Yes, but it points out the hypocrisy of claiming fraud when high level people in your side are doing it. Not that Tiny Hands or his supporters will care.

I believe you are correct, but Cheeto has vowed to launch a "major investigation" on this exact thing. This exact thing his chief strategist is "guilty" of participating in.
We know how this one ends. There will be a report saying "20 million fraudulent voter records were uncovered!!!!"
And it will be people who moved/died/etc. but their names were still on the voter rolls.
When intelligent people point out that being registered in two states is not fraud (unless you vote multiple times), and dead people on the rolls is not fraud (unless they're voting), it will be drowned out by the screams of a million Trump idiots who will believe whatever bullshit the administration sells them, regardless of reality.

Now he can suppress more voters when his "investigation" shows that some people listed on the rolls are deceased. This is dangerous.
This is exactly what I'm thinking. There are lots of deceased individuals, those who moved and this is fodder to make stricter voter registration guidelines. I see no good outcome here.
Okay, so even if there was massive voter fraud, how would they prove that those votes went to HRC? And if there was massive voter fraud, that would just make me think that the election was compromised, DJT isn't a legitimate president and there needs to be a re-vote (I mean, I know that's not how it actually works). But doesn't he supposedly hate being thought of as an illegitimate president? If he is right, wouldn't that just make him seem even more illegitimate?
I don't think he's thought any of that through.
I do wonder if any of his handlers had any idea he was going to tweet this before he did it if they are screaming to figure out what to say now.
ETA screaming was supposed to be scrambling but I guess either works
I think they are. There were sooo many voter fraud investigation questions at yesterday's press conference, and Spicer's attitude was fairly consistent that it was no big deal. Right down to the "He was just having a discussion with some folks in passing."
I genuinely don't know if he was blind-sided by the tweet or if the info was leaked early, and he was trying to keep a lid on it so that Trump could have his big reveal.

This is 100% right. And maybe some changes are made that reduce some of this, even though it's a complete nonissue. And then all of us will know he's an idiot and all of his supporters will feel smug that he made changes.
Don't you think he'd just falsify the data? Seems like that's the next step. Investigation led by Alex Jones.
They are going to make shit up. That is their MO.
Get your alternate facts straight, pizzapizza . They don't speak 'falsehoods', they just use a different set of facts than everyone else does. They are the Special Snowflake administration.

Truth.

Ignore me, responding late!
But don't be embarrassed to ask a question. Learning is never a bad thing.
Are you supposed to cancel your voter registration when you move?
I've been hearing on CNN that the state where you've moved to, should be the one to notify your old state. So really, you shouldn't have to do anything. which is why this shit will go nowhere.

And seriously, how are the dead people supposed to take care of it? Again, it would seem to be the state's job once a death certificate is issued, perhaps? SaveSave

Well, there are potentially some issues. For instance, here in CO with voting by mail, when people move and don't change their address or registration or die and their ballot still gets sent out. I know when I was canvassing for HRC, I ran into one couple who mentioned that they had received the former occupant's ballot (who was the person I was looking for). They said they were going to shred it, but they certainly could have filled it out and mailed it in. It would have been illegal, but I'm not exactly sure how anyone counting that vote would know. Particularly if the previous owner hadn't changed her registration to a new CO address, had moved to another state or had died.
For apartment buildings, that could be a problem. I canvassed many apartment buildings and there were a lot of registered voters who were still on the rolls but no longer lived at their addresses, but their ballots would presumably still be sent out to those addresses unless they were currently registered somewhere else in CO.
I don't know specifically how undocumented immigrants supposedly get their ballots, though.
