Is anyone watching the speech from the Philly retreat? Did this just happen now?
Also, I was reading a theory that when he says these things, he's repeating words from strategy discussions. They tell him, "go out and say X because Y." And he goes out and says Y. This topic (leaving ACA as-is) is one of those places where he seems to be spouting strategy points rather than public talking points.
Will it really be an albatross though? I mean...if they jack with it they would own some of the issues (like if they cut funding or some of the stuff that makes it worse/crumble).
I guess what I'm saying is, they are in control and there's no reason for them not to try and put in their own set up. And wouldn't that invite backlash among people who don't like it? Like you had your chance and you didn't do anything.
Related but what exactly DONT people like about the ACA? The premium costs? Because it's a small portion that are affected by what the Rs really hate which is the taxes that fund it. Cheeto's people aren't affected by that and don't care about that aspect.

I've heard both premium costs and the fine for those uninsured who don't take part.

Freedom: businesses shouldn't be required to provide services they don't want to provide. People should be allowed to skip health insurance altogether, or to buy coverage that doesn't include the things that the ACA mandates.
Increasing costs / premiums: premiums are actually rising more slowly than they were expected to without the ACA, but people who hate Obamacare don't know or care about this.
Cost death spiral: Paul Ryan keeps repeating the claim that the ACA and Medicaid are in a "death spiral" (which is more nuanced than the phrase iteself; check this link for details: www.politifact.com/wisconsin/statements/2017/jan/18/paul-ryan/paul-ryan-wrongly-claims-actuaries-have-determined/, but also keep in mind that people hear "death spiral" and just think "bad" without understanding what it really means). In fact, Obamacare extended the solvency of Medicaid vs. not implementing the ACA.
Taxes: taxes were levied on rich people to cover Medicaid for poor people. Socialism!

This was in his interview last night too - he's like, "Well we could leave it as is, but it would fail and all would lose, so we HAVE to change it now."
DAVID MUIR: Let me ask you, Mr. President, about another promise involving Obamacare to repeal it. And you told The Washington Post that your plan to replace Obamacare will include insurance for everybody. That sounds an awful lot like universal coverage.
PRESIDENT TRUMP: It's going to be — what my plan is is that I wanna take care of everybody. I'm not gonna leave the lower 20 percent that can't afford insurance. Just so you understand people talk about Obamacare. And I told the Republicans this, the best thing we could do is nothing for two years, let it explode. And then we'll go in and we'll do a new plan and — and the Democrats will vote for it. Believe me.
Because this year you'll have 150 percent increases. Last year in Arizona 116 percent increase, Minnesota 60 some-odd percent increase. And I told them, except for one problem, I wanna get it fixed. The best thing I could do as the leader of this country — but as wanting to get something approved with support of the Democrats, if I didn't do anything for two years they'd be begging me to do something. But I don't wanna do that. So just so you understand — Obamacare is a disaster.
It's a photo of members of the PPD, with the caption: "We would like to take the time to remind those in the Republican Senate delegation who are our guests today that if they continue to threaten to withdraw Federal funding from Philadelphia{a sanctuary city}, we will withdraw our security forces deployed at 12th and Market {where the retreat is being held}."
it's not real. it's a parody FB account of the city, not the real one.

I was going to say. This seems off the cuff for the Philly FOP.

We were there with the kids this afternoon. We marched for a while but we're heading home now- wish we could have stayed longer but I know Philly will turn out tonight even harder when work let's out.

I don't think people are that smart to differentiate.
They screamed about how they hated Obamacare and rejected HRC in part because it was soooo bad and Trump made magical promises. If Trump and the GOP do nothing -- especially after all their big talk and failed repeal attempts, their supporters will fry them if they leave it alone. But the GOP will probably also get fried if they repeal it, because it truly will hurt a lot of people -- including GOP supporters who swallowed Trump's promise that he would deliver better healthcare for cheaper. It's sort of delicious, their dilemma; or it would be if it weren't, literally, a matter of life and death for millions of people.
They will think Trump is lame and weak if he comes back to them at the midterms or in three years and blames the minority party. The buck stops with him, whether he likes it (or whether it's fair) or not. Whoever is in charge gets blamed for all problems. Welcome to the presidency, asshole.
I so wish the Ben Franklin and Betsy Ross impersonators had joined the protest with signs that said, "I can't believe we're still protesting this shit"
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”

A lot of people have issue with the lack of choices in many areas for plans as well as many hospitals/doctors not being enrolled in these plans. Obviously that's not the fault of ACA but I think people are quicker to vilify the law than the health care companies. (An aside, I'm an insurance biller for a critical access hospital-rural community with little resources- so we get a lot of angry calls about how either we aren't enrolled in a plan or the physicians we employ aren't in a plan which is why I think this is an issue)
